2:73 too 3:73 or 2800+stal tq?

I have been reading that there is not much of a 1/4 mile ET increase with gears and i would be better off just getting a tourq converter.

SO if i can only get one what will give me the best ET increase in 1/4 mile and any reason you think i sould get either one

IMO, gears first. I didn't see much gain at all going to a Vig3200 with 2.73 gears. Then I saw more gain when I went over to 3.73's. Of course by then, you need ET Streets to hook up.

I would definately recommend the gear swap. It's well worth it.
I think that no gain b.s. is just that... b.s.
The SOTP gain is amazing though!

My best with shorties, CAI, MAF and 2.73's was 14.1@99, put in 3.73's and a cutout dropped to 13.5@105.

Its a HUGE difference when your going from a roll, from a stop, not as noticeable. Although, I've debated on going back to 2.73's and getting a good TC...not sure though.

But, get gears...you'll likey

Definitly not BS. I thought the same thing, even after many people on the board told me I wouldnt gain anything.

Hot Rod Hawk(Mod in the MI section) was one of the guys that told me i wouldnt gain, he had swapped also.Guess what, he ws right. I went 14.1 @99 with 2:73's went 14.1@99mph with 3:73's

That being said, it felt faster with the gears, and when I put in a 2800 vig, i dropped 9/10ths
If I were you, id go with gears first, and get a converter asap

They really go hand in hand. So I'd try to save up some more cash and get both.
But If you absolutely want one or the other. I guess I'd do gears first.

2.73 Best (w/o front runners)
13.39 @ 102.70

3.73 Best (w/o front runners)
12.96 @ 104.91

Gained: .43 tenths AND 2.21 mph

I also got some low 105 trap speeds but my best run was with a high 104 mph

i saw a huge differance but definately get rid of those 273's 1st. Then id look for something in the 3000-3500 stall speed

3.73s and the stall. As already said, its like spaghetti without the sauce having one without other.

i went the opposite, i went with the tc, i dropped almost 6 tenths off with it and drag radials, went from a 14.49@97 to 13.91@98 with it because it took my 60' from a 2.3 to a 1.9, my next mod will be a set of gears, just deciding on 3.42 s or 3.73 s

I'm sure a lot of that had to do with the drag radials.

If you do any racing "outside" the track, then get the gears. A 40mph roll w/ 2.73's suck.
