I don't think a 2.5 will restrict you any. It might actually help some with low end torque compared to the 3 inch unless you are running some serious HP (600+ range) which I don't think is the case with a 12.7 1/4 mile time (good time with stock heads by the way) Do you have long tube or shorty headers or are you running stock manifolds still?

Saint- Your car runs good, IMHO I say stick with what works. I have the FLP Ypipe and it really bottle necks. That is what I blame my 280rwhp WITH LONGTUBES on.

I think the stock one is 2.75" after the two pipes come together. The aftermarket ones are about that big per side.

i see it this way. the 3" Y-pipe is 6" total that constricts down to 3" when it gets to your catback. so now if you went with a 2.5" Y-pipe that would be 5" total flowing and constricting down to 3" which i dont think would make any difference what-so-ever except added ground clearance.

Think about it in terms of velocity. If you look at Supercross mufflers they get big in the middle and then go out small.

yup..that bites they make them that size vs 3". Something as minor as a cam and you'll wish you had a 3" and better flow. Go with 3" plan ahead do it one time. You'll be ready for heads, cam or stroker, etc etc.

That doesn't really work due to volume. For example take a 12 inch long piece of pipe thats 2.5 inches across vs one thats 5 inches accross and the 5 inch one will WAY out flow the 2.5.

PiR^3 = Volume if 12 inch long 2.5 inch pipe = 94 cubic inches
Volume of a 12 inch long 5 inch pipe = 589 cubic inches.

Along the lines of turbo Z's reply, I don't think a 3" y-pipe does a whole lot for ya if you're connecting it to a 3" catback. That would be dual 3" pipes into a single 3" pipe. So as long as you're sending the exhaust out a 3" muffler anyway, I don't see where the y-pipe would make much difference.

I dunno what difference it makes, basically i got mine on ebay...i had it won at 30 bucks but at the last second it went up to 50 plus 30 bucks shipping..so it was about 80 bucks then and the instal probably cost 30 dollars? I have no clue how much performance it gave me all i got is the FIPK..then stock headers, slp y pipe, stock cat, then loudmouth...i dunno but do any of you??
