1st rebuild. Opinions please.
1st rebuild. Opinions please.
I have a 93 M6 and am pulling the motor as soon as I'm done typing!
This has always been a stock daily driver. I intend to keep it a daily driver.
My doubled budget is $2000.
I will have a local shop machine and build the engine.
Here's what I'm planning / thinking :
Stock cam equals 202/207 at .450/.460 (ratio?) on a 116 lsa --- sound right?
So something mild like the cc304 210/220 .500/.510 on 114
or comp extreme 218/224 .495/.502 at 112
or hotcam 218/228 .525/.525 (1.6 ratio) at 112
Obviously new springs, pushrods, RR's, retainers, etc.
That's all for the heads.
For the bottom end I'm thinking just have the crank turned, use rods again ???- (Yes, they are pink - pulled pan last night.) New oil pump and new pistons. I've seen pistons range in price from $80-$800. I'm planning on keeping stock compression ratio, any suggestions on what brand pistons?
Oh, and exhaust is Hooker shorties, sans cat, stock muffler.

Re: 1st rebuild. Opinions please.
My car in comparrison to a few other f-body owners cars, with similar set ups, seems to be stronger. Now I am reffering to cams which is the only major dif. in our cars with the exception of dif.ignition, coil, cai and other minor stuff. One other guy has his car set up like mine down here and his Ruthless. I went with the hot cam simply because it was GM. Now I am glad I did, it is still a very functional daily driver that gives me no problems. I work offshore so the car gets driven about 550 miles just to work. I like the performance and the durability of it since I put so many miles on it.
