1LE a/c delete pulley?

Got rid of the a/c on the car and I am using the 1le delete pulley. Since my rebuild I have been shredding serpentine belts when the car is put in 1st gear and ran to 6500rpm. When the car idles I can blip the throttle and see the tensioner move with the acceleration of the engine.I replaced the tensioner and shredded , yet another belt. I went to the dealer and there is a 1st design and second design belt but nothing specific to the 1le camaro that WE could find. Has anyone had the same happen to them? I bought the 1 st design belt which is approx. 25 mm shorter but am still a bit waery. I have checked the alignment of the pulleys and all is ggod. The belt even rides on the old shiny spot on the power steering pully. There is no wobble or squekking of the pulleys and when I swapped the first belt I checked all to see if anything was loose or askewed. All was fine. I will have to look into the ac delte pulley as I never had a problem till its installation but it WAS fine before the engine rebuild. The bracket is installed correctly along with all bracing and the correct routing. A straight edge was used to verify everything was in line with the crank pulley. I am a little stumped as I would love to believe that it just makes sooooo much power that it is shredding belts but I know there are cars making more power yet, so I can throw the ego aside. The first one was cool but no longer. I spent $ 80 in belts , with the shorter belt being my newest purchase.
I thought of using a dial indivator but I think that much runout in a pulley would be apparent. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as I don't want to put on my new torque arm till I can throw down a base run and see what improvements I do get in my 60' times, thanks again!

Sounds like you covered most bases. Perhaps your alternator or ps pump is causing excess drag? The only other thing I can think of is if you did not get your crank hub on all the way (assuming you are using your original pulley).

I bought a new hub and balancer. It was a 3 in one type that would cover installation into a 93-95 f-body, 96-97 f-body and b-body cars also. It comes short. For my application I had to install a washer/spacer that was supplied with the kit. I was positive I bottomed out on the hub. Then the crank bolt is torqued to spec. I have been kickin the idea around of purchasing a sfi hub anyhow so maybe it could be the balncer. Strange thing is it only does it when I use 1st gear(automatic). If it is in 2nd or drive it blows thru 1st gear and is already shifting at approx. 20 mph. I got datamaster , I just need to scan it but I am in Pennsylvania right now so I won't be able to get to it till Monday. Thanks for the reply

I have a 1LE A/C delete pulley with an ASP underdrive crank balancer. I just picked up the first belt that fit with this setup from autozone. (Goodyear) and it works without any problems. It has been to those RPMs a number of times now and it's a 6 speed so it's a bit harsher on the belt than an auto. Sounds like a hub/balancer problem to me. I'd just get a used set from an f-body and give that a try.

I thought of the asp pulley. I got over 7k in getting this thing goin this year so a few extra hundred, at this point, really doesn't seem to matter anymore
I am glad you chimed in also cause I got my datamaster and want to log some runs so I can get this thing fine tuned. Its runnin rich. I am only on my first tune from Bryan since getting it going. No exhaust leaks, just eye watering rich!!

Re: 1LE a/c delete pulley?

After I shredded my 5th belt I had to seriously look at this. I replaced the tension arm and even tried a shorter belt that at the dealer was called the "first design" for lt 1. It was approx. .5 inch shorter. Still tearin belts up. I was changing the oil yesterday and looked at the crank pulley (AGAIN!) and thought for the hell of it, I'll just put a 5/8 socket on the crank bolt and try to spin the engine over by hand. Well, the crank bolt was loose as hell and when it did finally start to tighten you could hear the balancer creek on a bit further and further till it was ready to be torqued. I could have sworn I torqued the balancer on cause I remember having a hell of a time holding the crank pulley trying to torque the bolt, but maybe I didn't. I am glad the hub is keyed so I know I didn't spin the hub on the crankshaft. After I discovered that I began checking everything, which was good except for a few header bolts which I check every so often anyhow. Just thought I'd post my finding......

Glad you got it worked out, I always try to double check things.

Glad you found it. A buddy of mine had the same prodlem as you did, and it turned out that he put a spacer on his alternator by accident, which threw off the allignment.

I thought I did also It pays to be super ****. Live and learn. Now I can run some datamaster and hopefully get this fine tuned.
