Question 1997 Z28 Engine swap ?

For my 18th birthday, my dad bought me a 1997 Z28 and it seems to be a bit sluggish. My buddy has a V-tech available for sale. If I were to remove my old engine and lower that in my camaro would that produce much better results? The engine he is offering is supposedly a 4-cyclinder and I think it produces around 325 hp.

THAT WOULD BE A GODD@MN DISCRASE.

That would be no different than getting some spray paint to the ceiling of the Sisteen Chappel, or drawing a mustache and nose hair on the Mona Lisa.

Dude, the engine in your z28 has a nice starting horspower number that can be raised pretty easily, maybe not cheap but easy. Stick with the LT1.

First off have you Z checked out. There are many possible simple maitenance items that can cause the engine to lag.

Second, its VTEC. Any, 4 cyl. that is putting out 325HP is going to be high maintenance. The engine will probably blow within 6 months. Don't give me any crap about not knowing Honda engines, I also have a '99 Prelude SH.

Third, it would be extremely expensive to try to place a Honda engine in a Camaro. You would first need to figure out how to mount the transverse engine. Then you would either need to find a rear drive transmission that can mate with the rear end. Or, completely rework the front to be front drive.

I would say a ball park cost for this conversion to be 10K-15K.

Sticking with the original engine for 10K you could have a reliable all motor car with over 450 RWHP. Much more if you opt for a supercharger.

Stick with the original block.

Yeah I guess that is a good point. 325 HP for a 4 cyclinder is pretty hot to run on. Thanks for the advice.

also too w/ 4cyl engines you may have 325hp but half the torque probably of the Z28........ something to think about numbers aren't always everything.

You would be a fool if you did this. You would ruin the image of your domestic car.

Remember 8 cylinders engines has four more cylinders which=MORE POTENTIAL HP
