1997 Headers

What have all of you dual cat guys done when it came to getting headers. There arent any real good headers for the dual cat cars. I wanna get some headers in the future but i dont know what to do. I have seen the AS&M setup where they take the dual cats and make it a one cat system. Just wondering, thanks for all the feedback in advance.

i went with the 94-95 style mac headers. I also put in a 94-95 style hooker catback. IF you dont have a 94-95 style catback you can buy a S-Pipe that will connect your 96-97 style catback with your headers. I think you can get them at thunder racing. I would recommend going with the 94-95 style.

Personally I like the AS&M conversion kit. It's a little pricey(SIC) but you get every thing you need, it's stainless, coated, and has the 1 3/4" primaries.

I love my setup. Sounds great and doesn't hang down at all. No need to worry about speed bumps like the longtube guys...

what do you mean there are not any good headers for dual cat cars? lol...that's funny...could you be more specific? Hooker, JetHot (my choice) and FLP all make a very decent set of headers for dual cat cars.

There is nothing wrong the dual cats on a stock car. When switching to headers though the headers available for single cat cars are a much better design than those for a dual cat car. When you buy headers for a single cat car they come with a new high flow y-pipe and you then use a single 3" cat (or no cat). All the dual cat style headers require you to use your existing dual cat y pipe and the headers, or buy a $600 or more high flow dual cat y pipe and the headers themselves have a somewhat unusual design to the primary tubes. Compare some single and dual cat headers and the design difference is pretty clear.

I chose Jet-Hot coated Mac headers(94-95 style), mac off-road pipe, and a (94-95 style) Borla cat-back. If you do plan on running a cat though, you will need either a re-program or an OBDI conversion. In my case, I'm going to run a pair of O2 simulators and eventually convert to OBDI.

Get the SLP Headers and some nice gaskets; gut the cats, then get a muffler from Hooker, and you will have a nice haul-*** Camaro; sounds mean too.

I chose to go with FLP long tubes and regretted it for a while due to the problems I had with them in the past, but now that there's emissions testing in my area, I'm glad I went with FLP's.
