1995 Z28 question

Hey everyone. I just bought a 1995 Z28 with traction control a few days ago and I would like to run a quarter mile in the low 13's to high 12's. Where should I start?

Is it manual or auto?

Long Tube Headers, No Cats, High Flowing Cat Back

CAI

PCM Tuning

Higher stall converter (Auto) + Slicks.

1.6 RR & New Valve springs.

Should have you pretty close to low 13's, high 12's if its an auto with stall in good shape.

If its a M6, your a little more limited. An Auto is way easier on the rear end ... Dump the clutch at high RPMs with radials and your going to be picking fragments of rear end gears off the track.

Pretty popular on LT1's, they take Nitrous fairly well. If you did basic bolt ons, and a small shto of nitrous 50-75ish, it'd definatly run the times you want. They DONT take boost well so forget about superchargers and turbo kits. Too high a compression for the ****ty pistons to take, itll break ring lands = not good. Alot of people do heads and cams on their cars, this will definatly put you past where you want to be also. LT1's are pretty stout, and can take some abuse, just dont be an idiot. Dont get a HUGE cam, and have to rev 6500+ RPM's then wonder why you spun a bearing with some serious miles on it already.

Actually, if all you want is high 12's, Id say headers, no cats, catback, cai, and GM Hot Cam Kit, would be your best bang for the buck.

Also, try and get some parts from the For Sale section on the board. There are some good deals, just make sure others have bought from the seller before so you dont get shafted.

Yeah, it's an automatic car. Will it be able to handle the power to run 12's? My last one was an '88 camaro with the 700R4 and with my experience they weren't the greatest... is the 4L60E much better?

With my '95 I did it with just a tune, edge 3000 stall, SLP CAI and catback exhaust. If your racing near sea level, those mods should work just fine for you as well. The converter and gears alone were worth nearly a full second off my 1/4 mile time, so if you can afford it, I'd go with those mods first they also make the car waaay more fun to drive.

The 4L60E sucks just as much as the 700 in stock form, but they can be rebuilt to handle high hp loads. CPT is a site sponsor and they can bullet proof the trans pretty cheap.

Throw a stall and decent tires in there too, otherwise you'll be running mid-13's all day.
