1995 Valve/Cam Concerns

I recently bought a 1995 Camaro z28 from a kid who twisted 3(yes, 3) connecting rods and left some pretty nasty scars rendering the cam/block/crank useless. I picked up a 350 block with freshly machined iron heads & stock intake/TB for $200 locally.

The cam they had in it was .500 224/230. I don't know about the springs or anything else other then it has 1.6 Crane Cam Roller Rockers.

My concern is....I don't want to leave the cam stock, as I'm young and want to have fun. I want a pretty decent cam that would make awesome power. As well, I don't know what other supporting mods I would need to do with the pushrods/springs. What do you guys recommend?

I'm also in the process of shoving as much information about cams/head work into my brain at 2 AM that is humanly possible. So please, be nice.

The stock lifters are fine. If the ones you have are no longer serviceable just buy stockmGM replacements.....they're the same ones used in the LS7

That cam is far from stock and should be a solid performer.

Pushrod length will have to be specced after engine assembly. ..

Welcome and good luck!

Re: 1995 Valve/Cam Concerns

Going through all the receipts and everything. Found an interesting invoice with some goodies. EX-612KCM - 612CM Springs. EX-720H-16 - 7.200' Length Hardened pushrods. CC-875-16 - Comp Cams 'R' Series Hydraulic Roller Lifters. Now if all my non-stop googling is correct...I believe I should be fine if I get a cam around CC503 specs?

Is your car an automatic ? or an M-6. Your 273 gears aren't going to do you any good with a larger cam, not to mention if you have an 4l60 e transmission, you will need a stall converter. Just things to think about with alarger camshaft. Good luck.

Getting 4.11 gears and a 3200 Stall as an early Christmas present. Already ahead of that, lol.

4.11s might be a bit much for a street car and an auto. 3.73s might be a better choice. Just something to consider. I am sure some guys with autos will chime in. Good luck with the project

Re: 1995 Valve/Cam Concerns

if your gona street that car i would put 3:42 or 3:73 gears in it not 4:11s ... the 4:11 are to low for the 4l60e tranny... you'd run out of gears and rpms rather fast if your like me hahaha

o yea and beef up that tranny a little bit cause i slipped mine 2 days ago and i have a small cam in my engine. >.<

You will need to recheck the needed push rod length once the cam and heads are put together. Those 7.2 pr may not be valid depending on head/ block/ cam and gasket combination. Also there was once up on a time a problem with comp R lifters, I think there is a sticky post about them depending on when they were purchased.

Re: 1995 Valve/Cam Concerns

How would I recheck the needed push rod length after the engine is assembled?

It's the only way it can be done.
