180 mph

What it takes to go 180 mph with a 1997 SS M6?
A cam change, a stroker, a supercharger?

Please do not ask about where I will cruise at 180 mph, I just want to be able to do that. I don't want to spanked by Ferraris and Porsche Turbos at top end

I have been over 170mph in the 94 formula. I had a cam (cc306) with all the valvetrain parts, cai, and headers with an open exhaust.

I did over 150 mph in my 96 Z28 when all it had was the Hypertech power programmer III. I was racing my friend in an STI and when we got home he said "I was doing 150 and you were pulling away."

Re: 180 mph

main thing to top speed besides brute horsepower is not to run out of gear at red line or close to it. So basically in a stock type fbody you are never going to go 200 mph with 4.11's

In you sig is say "In 30 years I wonder how many will be left" I don't know but not yours at that speed!! Just kidding. Shame on me I to have seen the niddle hit 150 in the firebird. But, that waswhen it was all stock. It will go AAAAALLLLLLLOOOOOOOTTTT faster now.

Re: 180 mph

You guys ever tach out 5th gear? Is it worse for the motor to tach out 5th then to shift at like 4k and pin it in 6th?

You think a setup like mine can hit 200mph? I mean... without blowing the motor assuming I had 20 miles of straight level road? L0L

Re: 180 mph

all i know is that my formula came with the 110 mph speedo which i thibnk is BS but man these cars fly, i havent got it up there yet, i just bought it over the summer and i paid a whole lot for it and not about to either blow the motor or trans apart or worse yet my self or the car or someone else. i would bet my grand ma though that i can do a buck 50 in my formula, still though my speedo is BS BTW my car is a 94 formula, remember i am coming off a TBI 25th camaro so n e thing is fast especially a tbi with 171k on it

No way. You would need well over 400hp, and a car with better aerodynamics than our cars have. With about 350rwhp, you could prolly hit 175, but anything higher than that, and the cars get real squirly due to lack of downforce. I am not stating this based off of knowledge, simply stating the fact based off principles of aerodynamics and such.

Re: 180 mph

my car did 162 stock. i would think longtubes, 3.23 gears, heads and a HGE cam should do it.

Re: 180 mph

Just keep in mind that if you are using a gear like 4.11's or 3.73's is that you dont allow the Drive Shaft to reach terminal Velocity... I saw a post or 5 about hitting 200mph over on frrax.com you may want to do a search over there. There was a lot of really good info and someone actually came through with aerodynamics vs. rwhp to hit the 200mph mark.. I think I remember a LT1 Camaro needing something like 800hp and I forget what gear... Remember that after around 130mph it takes A LOT of hp to accelerate you to say 170. More so that it would take to get you from 80-130.

Good Luck and dont get caught... Take it to Bonneville... That way the timing is official, and you will know exactly how fast you were going... Legally!

Re: 180 mph

Looks like he lives in Turkey, where there are always some suitable spots to hit 180 mph and usually no cops around
Anyways, try these links to see how much horsepower you need to hit 200 mph
