225/50/16 will fit fine, just about any 16" tire will fit on there, it may look a little wierd if you go to skinny though, Why do you want a 225/50 on there?

The speedo will be off quite a bit with a 225/50 tire. With a 225/55 its less than a 1% difference vs the stock 245/50.

My point was why go with a 225 at all? unless they are snow tires

I'm guessing they are since he lives in PA. I just got some 225/55/16 snow tires today. They will look pretty gay once I get them on . But hopefully I won't get stuck with them. I hate snow

Go with either 245s or 255s. 225s are too skinny.

winter driving

if you plan on buying these tires for snow, then discount tire is running a sale till the end of this month.
the firestone bliztrac tire mounted & balance $118.00 each.
225/50/16

i dis agree with the speedo being off, as long as you maintain your wheel height from the factory tires, your speedo should be fine.

The 225/50/16 will cause the speedo to be off 3.1%. So if you were going 60 MPH your speedo would say 58MPH. Not to horrible but as you speed up it gets worse. I wouldn't want to drive with it off that much. A 225/55/16 will only be 0.4% off.

To answer his question yes a 225/50/16 tires will fit but they speedo will be 3.1% off.

how is it possible if you keep the same wheel dia?

thats why when you buy tires, for these cars you make sure you
get the same tire od.

The second number in the tire size (the side wall height or 50 in this case) is a percentage of the first (the total width 225 in this case). 50% of 245 is bigger than 50% of 225 so the 225/50/16 has a smaller diameter than the 245/50/16 thus it spins faster causing the speedo to be off 3.1%. So getting a 225/55/16 you have 55% of 225 instead of 50% so the diameter is bigger. Its still not exactly the same as 50% of 245 but its close enough to not be noticable. This website will show you how much different tire sizes will cause the speedo to be off:
