160 thermostat

What happens if you run a 160 thermostat (hypertech) with A stock tune?

The motor will run cooler at highway speeds when enough air is flowing to the radiator, but it will be the same in stop and go trafic since it depends on the fans for air and these will kick in at the stock settings.
Personaly I wouldn't run an LT1 without one stock tune or otherwise.

I ask because it overheated today and blew a head gasket. I'm running with a stock tune so I thought that may have been the reason. Where do you live in Bahrain, I also live in Bahrain. Hoora to be exact.

I actully removed my 160 t-stat from my car since it seemed to never get out of open loop and ran way to cold. My car runs way better with the 180

It takes about 140° to go into closed loop. If all other closed loop parameters were met, there must have been something else wrong.

Surely the overheating have nothing to do withthe 160 stat. There is some other issue that caused it either water or air related.
Currently I'm living in A'Ali.

Nevermind. I blew a hose and that's why it overheated. One of my heater hoses blew. Do you race up in salmabad?

Bingo I had the same problem, it takes for every to warm up w/ a 160. LT1's were made to run hot. I wouldnt recommend the 160 as you wont get hardly any gain anyways.

Yep, hardly any gain and the car burned more fuel. Not worth it in my book

Re: 160 thermostat

Hmm...well, it has been dynoed to show power gains, but if you live in a cold climate, maybe not. I think most people would say a 160° is worth it. I do change to a 180° in the winter.

Re: 160 thermostat

yeah, i live in california. it helps. i put my supercharger on and my temps went up to 215-225deg. i threw in a 160 and it runs a nice 175-185. and i dont think that LT1s were meant to run hot, it just happens. a cool engine is a happy engine....

Re: 160 thermostat

I installed one over the summer. The car runs much cooler and I experienced no loss in gas milage. I may have to swap back to the stock 180 during winter, but we'll see....

I can't really tell you. I don't have to deal with any smog testing where I live.
