160 thermo worth it?

I've got a hypertech 160 degree thermostat sitting in my trunk. Is it worth installing or will it just cause a problem with my cooling system?

Worth it.

Even your tranny will run cooler. My understanding is that all models have an OEM tranny cooler inside the Radiator. Have cooler radiator will translate into a cooler tranny. Also prior to me seafoaming my car, it was knocking at mid throttle... the Thermo reduced the knocking by more than half. After the seafoam the knocking is now gone.

Get your fans to come on earlier. With the 160° and stock fan settings, your temps are still going to go up to what they used to when you're sitting in traffic. A combination of the two is what gets the job done at all times.

I think the mechanic that did my spark plug wiring is an idiot. He told me not to get CAI or headers because it would mess up the "factory settings in the computer" which I think is total BS, and he said the thermostat would cause a continuous coolant loop and some other stuff. Also told me to cap my cut-out during the winter because my O2 sensor would go out eventually... the cut-out isn't even near a sensor under the backseat passenger side.

Car will run so so much cooler with that and the fans re-programmed.... Well well worth it IMO...

Well hes not toally wrong, I guess on a stock car it's sorda, meh not really needed. He's probably trying to say that there are better more responsive mods then a thermostat.

160* thermos are what? $20? It doesnt take long to put one in either. My car runs about 10* cooler at cruise with stock fan operation which doesnt have any effect anyway unless the car idles for 10 min or longer. The only way you'd need the fans on earlier is if you dont want the car to get real hot liek it does when its running and sitting for a long time.

I dropped in a 160 thermo and the computer didn't care.
My headers and Ram Air also didn't mess up my computer.

IMHO the 160 thermo is the single best thing I have done for the longevity of the motor.
Keeping everything running cooler helps everything last longer.
I hated watching that gauge go up and up and up and me freaking out like its gonnna boil over and torching the heads and car breaking and..............
160 thermo kept me from going insane.
