Mine never goes over 170-175. You probly have an air pocket in the cooling system, try bleeding it.

Thermostats only make a significant difference when you are moving. It opens up to allow cooler coolant flow through the engine and the moving air cools the radiator fins. If it opens when the car is idling, there is no way to cool the coolant unless the fans kick on eventually.

Take it for a drive and you will see that the engine temp stays low instead of 180-190.

Did you open the bleed valves after the engine was warm and let the air out?

Did you change the fan temp settings? If not the t-stat will only make a diff while your driving.

Don't know if it is or not. Some people on here will tell you that you need a tune and some that have done it say you will not need a tune. Personally, my views are the computer is designed to work with the stock thermo, which is 195 correct me someone if im wrong. If you drop it down to 160, that tells the computer the engine is cold so it dumps more fuel to the injectors. It wont run right and will kill your gas mileage, you may see temp drops or you may not. I would say you would need to get a computer tune, either by pcmforless, or HPP3 if you can afford it.

Just a tip. A lot of times I will turn the AC on when I am sitting at a light, or when I'm just idling somewhere. It drops the engine temps right away. I turn it back off when the light is starting to turn green. I think the AC system turns the cooling fans on sooner. It will keep the engine temp around 190.

It is too hot but unfortunately that is the stock settings. You need the fan mod to make it come on sooner but I don't know if there is one for the newer ls1's but without that or a program it will continue to run hot.

Mine does the same thing. Around 210-220 at idle and then 170-180 while driving. Turns out the coolant fans aren't coming on. Something happened to them after I got the car tuned for my cam. Just had the file re-done and installed and now it works fine.

Please dont ever give tech advice again.
