160 degrees, worth it?

i just installed a 160* powerstat and i used the HPP to change the fan settings, and according to my temp gauge, i was running consistently at the second tac mark (185 or so) before the new thermo, and now im just a hair or two under that mark. i thought this was supposed to help my car run cooler?? i didnt notice any difference while driving either. is this normal?

you wont notice a huge power difference from just the thermo, but it should run cooler. mine stays at 160 mark all of the time.
may also depend on where you live. i live in GA right south of Atlanta

I know before I did the 160 stat my temp guage was always over the halfway mark and it would get almost to the red before the fans would kick on.
Since the stat and programming it stays just under the first mark and never goes over it.

the first mark being the 160 mark. and the second mark between 160 and half (185?) is where my car would stay at all the time. and now with the stat and the hypertech programer it stays at the same place, i dont understand. i didnt even try to use the HPP to tune the car, just to adjust the fan temps.

Ok my idea of the first mark and other peoples ideas may be different.
The VERY first mark where the needle sits when cold, I don,t call that the first mark, when the needle starts to rise and the first mark it hits, to me thats the first mark on the guage and mine sits between the bottom and this mark most of the time.
On a very hot day my needle will get close to the first mark but if it goes over it I know I have a problem somewhere and can shut it down before it gets too hot.
So basically I use the first quarter of the guage and never more than that.

You can install a 160 stat without programming but your fans will still come on when the stock programming calls for it.
Programming will turn the fans on sooner so the car won,t get so hot.
On the highway and cruising around town you will see lower temps but if you let it sit and get hot the fans will come on at thier stock setting.

What is the benifit of installing a 160 stat? I can see you would get cooler air in the combustion chamber, but the combustion chamber needs to be hot to get the most eficient burn right? Do these counteract eachother to give you minimal gains?

You bled the air out of the cooling system using the bleed screws right?

yes i bled the air out with the screws like the hypertech instructions say. wasnt much to bleed though, i did the install after my car had been sitting all day.

So the car was heated up to the point that you knew the thermostat was open, say about 190 degees, and then you bled the air?

Just want to make sure there is no air in the system, which will keep your temps high.
