Pfft GM doesnt know anything. That's why i removed my front bumepr support and cut out the front bumper to be one big opening so it would cool better straight to the radiator. That's also why my front bumper crushed inward around 130mph and my car started overheating. GM engineers designed things a certain way. I use 5w30 castrol syntec. It's pretty dirty after i change it, but i have never lost a drop of oil so long as i have owned my car. If you have used 5w30 all your cars life, it will keep your engine cleaner and minimize the wear the most of any other oil becuase that's the weight the engine was designed for. The engine is tuned for 5w30. If you needed a heavier oil, you would be losing some oil from it burning up from running those high rpms and high temperatures.

The oil analysis is from Blackhawk Labs. You mail in a sample of your oil and the analyize it and send you back the results. Its been a while since I read the article that came from blackhawk but they tell you things about your car that could be wrong internally, etc.

I use 15W-50 and will never change, no problems for me. Father has allways used it in his Turbocharged Porsche....

I got a good deal on it and the guy who sold it to me out of the trunck of his Lt1 assured me it was the only stuff he ever used. That's why he carried so many cases of the stuff around with him (just to make sure he had plenty on hand).

He also had some computers in there too, so I know this guy was really smart.

So much for the thicker is better argument. If you had a clapped out British sportscar from the 60's, thicker is better. Not today.
I love anecdotal information presented as fact. It is so easy to disprove, and the logic so childlike.....
i crew on a craftsman truck team part time, and can tell you from experience your are misinformed. i can name dozens of teams in both cup and truck that run 20w50 redline. even with this oil they also have honda main/rod journals, roller cam bearings, large base circle cams and huge dry sump oil tanks tp keep engine friction and damage to a minimum. id really like to know whos running 5w oils in their cup car, because this is the first ive heard of it.

Red Line doesnt weigh the same though. Red line is RATED at those weights. Red line is a very thin oil. It's temperature tollerences and such that make redline so good. Their 90w gear oil is rated at like 250w as far as temperature and librication.

I like mobil1 0-40 when it's cold, and 15-50 in the summer months.
