15 degrees of knock retard need help

15 degrees of knock retard need help

I dont understand what is going on. sometimes it wont read any retard at all or if it does it is only 1 or 2 degrees. But then there are times that at half throttle there is 15 degrees and at full it is at 9. why whould this happen? and how much is it hurting me because I can fill a big diference when it is puling knock. I do have the lt4 km.

when I start it up and lisin under the hood there is no knock that I can hear even when I rev it

determine if knock is real or false get an octane booster or some xylene from a paint store if you determine it is indeed false get it tuned out.you are loosing a lot of power.

so how much octane will a quart of xylene give me if there is about 10 gallons of gas in the car

I found oil to cause a lot of knock retard. Is your pcv still going to the intake under the tb? If so, take a flashlight and look inside your intake through the tb and see how much oil is coated on the walls. With boosted/sprayed engines, especially LT1s they will pull more oil through the intake and it will kill your a/f mix. I have been told oil will cut octane numbers in half which would give you that kind of knock retard.

it is some what black with what looks like fresh oil in it. if I took it off whould it mess up anything.

P.S. I forgat to put that it is 93 octane to in the car if that helps

You can remove the hose from the intake and cap it, then just put a hose on the pcv and a little k&n filter on the end. Or the ideal way would be to put a in line oil filter in between the pcv and the intake to keep pulling crank case vacuum or hook up the hose to an air pump to pull vacuum. This way the crank case will have vacuum when you spray and build up cylinder pressure.

thinks I just got some xylene but I have a 3/4 tank of fuel so I am going to to let it get lower before using it

ok did the inline filter from the pcv and tryed actual race gas it is still I allso did this http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/6647/ta93/knock.htm and it is still there. There is no code 43 or nothing elese should I just Find a way to disable it or what it is really makeing me mad.

If it is indeed false knock, which it sounds like it is, you can either have it tuned out or do the resistor bypass on the KS circuit. I had the same problem with mine and I just went ahead and did the resistor mod because I didn't feel like asking PCM for Less to tune it out. It took about ten minutes and it works flawlessly. I don't think one method is better than the other so I took the quick route. Just do a search for "knock sensor resistor mod" or something like that and you'll find it.
