Re: 12's WHAT DO I NEED?

weight reduction, bolt ons, and drag radials have done it for many!

Exactly what extent of weight reduction?
Just taking off front sway bar, spare tire, jack and back seats?

Re: 12's WHAT DO I NEED?

get Cold air induction, longtubes, gears, 2800 or 3000 stall, pcm tune and some drag radials or et streets. That along with removal of a little weight (spare tire/jack, rear seats, and front swaybar) should definately put you in the 12's if your car is running right. The weight removal may or may not be needed for 12's, but its free and can't hurt.

Re: 12's WHAT DO I NEED?

Since your car is an auto, it would be very easy to get in the 12's naturally aspirated. Just simple suspension like a set of LCA's, a set of drag radials, converter, gears and maybe a set of long tube headers. I would check into Edge racing converters. Nobody's heard of them but they make some nice converters for the 4L60E. My converter was about $520 and it was custom made to my specs of the car and future plans of the car. Their website is edgeracingconverters.com. I went with a 3800 Edge converter in my first LT1 car (dropped nearly a second with converter alone), 373 gears, just a little tuning, NO suspensions mods, NO headers, NO weight reduction, BFG drag radials on a set of welds, and it ran high 12's no problem, with 160,000 miles on the clock

Re: 12's WHAT DO I NEED?

since you have an obd-1 car you really cant go above 2800 unless you want to upgrade to an obd-2 computer. the obd-1 cars have shifting problems if you go to big with the converter. I would suggest a 2400 stall, a set of drag radials, long tube headers, off road y-pipe, cold air kit, and a shift kit. i would see no reason for you hitting the 12's then. if you have the 2.73 gears you will need to upgrade and get a posi.

Well its easier said than done going 12's I'm no where close and I have a lot of mods just do the real performance mods cai, exhaust, stall and pull out everthing you don't need to race and then go from there.

A lot of it is going to depend on your location (altitude, track prep conditions). But for me, 12s were pretty easy. Basically headers, CAI, gears, and DRs. Thats in an M6 car by the way.

Re: 12's WHAT DO I NEED?

It shouldn't be hard if the track and weather are right. I ran the 13.3 in my sig with just the mods listed there on stret tires getting 1.95x 60ft times.
When I pullted my trans I did a few things including a tune-up (found my plugs to be warn, most of the gaps were around .06 instead of the .05 that was factory recomended). I also did a couple of free/cheep mods that I never had time for before like removing the sway bar, TB-bypass, 160* t-stat. I am just waiting to install the trans cooler and I will take it to the track (hopefully soon) and see how things go. I think that I will hit 12's unless I can't get traction.

I went 12.90's on cold air, catback, LT's, Vigilante 2800 stall, pcm4less tune, and Nitto DR's.

long tubes, stall(I like vigilante), gears, drag radials, and the listed weight reduction. You could always put a cam in there too.

This is sort of not true. If you go with a high stall, you can get a mail order tune from pcmforless.com or madz28.com (which you need to have if you plan getting in the 12's) that will allow you to run a high stall. A 2400 would be a waste or money in my opinion. I would not go less than a 3000 stall. The first mods you need to do are cold air and headers to let that thing breathe. Then with a converter, tune and 3.73's you will be in the 12's (granted you know how to launch that thing ). Let me know if you need anything else, i would be glad to help.

Re: 12's WHAT DO I NEED?

wieght reduction goes a long way. your front seats are very heavy. i noticed a big improvement in my car when i got rid of alot of junk that i had and then took out all kinds of stuff(including plastics) i cant remember if it was 2 or 3 tenths but it was free and made me faster even with a slower 60'

so your saying you went 13.3 with home made cai, cutout and tune by yourself, with 2.73 gears? Seems a little hard to believe if you ask me.
