105,000 miles: too late to put on Heads & Cam?
its never too late. though im sure the more miles, the more chance to spin a bearing, ect. i put my cam in at 119,000 miles and now have 124,000 and it still runs great. however a buddy had 145,000 and put the cam in and nuked it in a matter of days. go figure

if your real worried rebuild it and then put the cam and heads on

I'll do a compression check before I do it, and if all looks good I'll go ahead.
Thanks,
Eric
As has been said, do a compression test before and after, and a leak down test after, and you should be OK. LT1's are pretty reliable, and as long as everything looks good and tests fine, you should be OK. It would probably be a good idea to do a rebuild, like new rings, new bearings, etc, but if a compression and leakdown pass, you should be ready to go flying down the track...
As an example of high mile head/cam jobs, my LB9 in my '88 is about to get some aluminum ported heads and a new cam, and it has quite a bit more miles on it...Try 209K...
No oil conumption, great compression, and passed a leakdown with flying colors...

It hasn't broken yet.
