Overheating and coolant issues

I had my coolant flushed while i was home on christmas break. After this, I didn't have any heat all winter cuz i was up at school so i didn't need my car. I replaced the thermostat with one from autozone. It was the newer style with the extended spring style. This didnt fix the problem. I then had my heater core flushed and wahla i had heat once again. Car ran great till about 3 weeks ago. I noticed that i was spittin coolant all over the place. I decided to replaced the thermostat with the stock one thinking that this may be the problem. It solved the leak for about 3 or 4 days and then the leak returned. Coolant was spitting out from probably three different spots so i decided to try to bleed the air outta the system. this didnt help. Now im up at school and my car is running extremely hot. It'll fluctuate from around 210 while im driving and then all of a sudden shoot up to 260 and then slowly drop back down to the half way point (210). The worst is when i sit in traffic, it hits the peak red and "check guages" comes on. Any idea of what i should look for?

If it is, this will fix it.

Re: Overheating and coolant issues

so i replaced the radiator cap and tried bleeding all the air out of the system. I have now noticed that when i start the car up, it will get all the way up into the red and say check guages and then a few moments late it will sink back down below the halfway mark. While I'm driving the temp wont go above halfway, but if i come to a stop light or traffic it will jump up but not go into the red. any ideas? i also found a pinhole leak int he radiator probably 4 to 5 inches straight down from where the radiator cap sits. Is there a good way to go about fixing this?

thank you

Re: Overheating and coolant issues

so i have figured out that i am loosing all fluid out of my radiator through the pinhole leak a few inches below the radiator cap. Is filled my radiator up with a coolant/water mix and am now running fine but i still have a pinhole leak. What is the best way to fix this leak in my radiator? I've heard the raw egg idea and I've heard of a powder to seal the hole but is there any other way? Possibly braising the radiator where the whole is? Or sodering the hole or some sort of welding? Thank you.

Re: Overheating and coolant issues

could try "sealing' the hole with some blut RTV hehe. Might work as a temp solution until your cheap butt buys a new radiator

Some super glue might actually work better than RTV to plug up the hole. You could also drill a smalle stainless screw into the hole to block it up.

Re: Overheating and coolant issues

I had the radiator repaired and now I have realized that that is not the only issue at hand. The car is still not holding water. Could this be the result of a blown head gasket or possible cracked blocked? There are only 85,000 or so on the clock. Any ideas? I hope it isn't time for a rebuild.
