#1 TDC valve positions???

Well, when I removed my cam I know that my #1 piston at TDC but maybe not on the compression stroke. Before I get this thing all put back together I want to make sure that the timing is going to be corect. What ways can I be sure that it is on the compression stroke once I install the cam? I thought that maybe the position of the valves would be a good thing to look at to determine this??? But which valves should I look at to do this? Thanks

when you go past tdc on cylinder 1 the exhaust lifter shouldn't move up, if it does you are at tdc on 6... and continue to rotate until you are at 12o'clock again....

Alright thanks but one more thing. Which way do you turn the cam or timing chain to determine this? Clockwise right???

Yes, clockwise

you are scaring me right now... when you put the timing gears in the cam can only go in one way. The timing gears have a dot on earch one. The crank sproket should be at exactly 12 o'clock and the cam gear should be at 6 o'clock. (dots as close to each other as possible. How far along are you?

OK you just answered my question when you said (dots as close to each other as possible.) Because when I lined up the gears the two small dots were directly in line with eachother. One dot at 6 o'clock and the other at 12. But the arrow on the crank gear got me confused. I already have the cam out and am just waiting on the new cam to come in the mail! I should be OK though right if the dots were ligned up? Thanks so much for your help SVT Killer LV!
