Question Which 1 of the TC do you suggest?

As the subject states, I am having my A$ rebuilt and need a new TC. Of these 2, which one is better:

1. Summit pt# BMM-70418: 1984-93 TH700R-4, 1993-96 4L60E, 30 spline, lockup, Tork Master 2400 series, torque converter.
The Torque Master 2400 series torque converter is made for the street performance car. This 11 in. converter features a 2,300-2,500 rpm stall speed, furnace brazed fins in both the impeller and turbine, new mounting lugs, precision steel alloy pump drives, and needle bearings between the stator and turbine. B&M then finishes this unit by fully balancing and pressure testing it. Like its Tork Master 2000 brother, it's not recommended for big blocks. $239.95

2. Summit pt# BMM-70419: 1984-93 TH700R4 (4L60), 1993-96 4L60E, 30 spline, 11 in., Holeshot 2400 series, torque converter. This 11 in. torque converter adds good launching ability to your daily driver. It provides approximately 2,200-2,400 rpm stall speed. $334.95

My car is not a race car, just wanting a quick daily and don't want to spend $600 for Vig. Why does it seem that the lower stalled (ie lesser performance TC) is more expensive? Also, would these be a good choice for the mods in sig, or do you have any better suggestions? Thanks,

Kyle

Ever think about the S10 converter.

I had it before and I liked it, I now have the Vig 3000 stall but this is only because I blew up the tranny when I started making power and I figured it was time to upgrade anyways (see sig) My orignal trans did last 101,000 miles and I did have the S10 converter in there for about 22,000 miles. It stalled apprx ~400rpms over stock and it was the cheapest option. I got it from GM parts direct for 225.00 Shipped to my house.

Here is the part number if you need it 24202310.

It will fit with no problems and you will notice a difference right away but it wont effect your gas mileage that bad either.

Hope that helps,
Claude

Yes, I believe it was the converter that was in the 95 S10s and some other years too. But I found my original reciept and that is the correct part number from GMpartsdirect.

Thanx,
Claude

Get a midwest converter. I got one custom made for me for $440+ shipping. Anything from a 2800-3200 I think is the same price. I see that you have the HOTcam in your sig. You really need at least a 2800 stall. That's what I'm going with and I only have bolt ons. Installing a converter is a pain in the ***, be sure and get it right the first time!! Specs on my converter- 9.5" with 12" clutch housing, 30 spline, 2800 stall with lockup, 2.5 stall torque ratio. All for $440+shipping. Believe me, this is the deal. I will write up a little something on it after I get it installed Sunday!

Go to this site, http://www.raceconverters.com/ Get their number and ask to speak to Dennis, he is the guy that builds the converters. He's a busy guy so if he can't get the phone just leave your number.

Thanks for the responses Guys. I had thought about the S10 conv but for the price, decided to go with something aftermarket, as they tend top be a little better built. As far as installation, I am having a tranny ship do it for me with a tranny rebuild. Right now, I am leaning towards option 1 but keep the opinions coming. Thanks,

Kyle

We carry TCI converters and have had a lot of success with them. I'm headed to the track tonight to see how the 3500 stall performs.
I would suggest a TCI 3000 if you're not looking to go too big. It will give you some nice gains at the track, and will be plenty fun on the street. I could get one to you for $481.31. Don't forget, you will also need to get a tranny cooler with whatever converter you purchase!

I have heard of a lot of problems with shifting with OBD1 with anything over a 2800 stall. I was also wanting to stay at around $350 price range. That's why I am looking at the B&M or maybe a SLP unit. I am definaately getting a tranny cooler installed with mine though. Thanks,

Kyle
