Question 1.6RR and stock springs?

I'm putting on a set of 1.6 Pro Magnums, but nothing else (besides studs & guideplates), no cam. Only .030" more lift and fresh springs, only 26K miles.

I see aftermarket springs advertised: valve lift up to .600"

So what are the stock springs rated at? Can I just stick with the stock springs? Or will there be problems? What springs would do the job, and not need any machine work for the heads?

Its been done, but it shouldn't be done. I seem to remember .490" for stock springs? Either way, on at least I believe the exaust side, every year cam will go beyond its rated lift at 1.6, grab some LT4 setup springs/retainers etc or something else.

Hmm

Yeah, looking at stock gross lift numbers of .448 & .458, the 1.6 rocker arms would put it at .478 & .488. I was hoping the springs were rated an even .500, but .490 seems too close.

LT4 stuff would probably be perfect, but prices are about the same as aftermarket... and I plan on heads/cam sometime later. So now I have to decide between getting good stuff now or later. Damn, I just wanted to keep this cheap and simple.

Thanks for the help.

It can be done,I have been doing it for about 20k miles,I do have a set of CC 987 springs to go on.I plan on putting a cam in in a few months. If you do it check each one for coil bind. They will be close to it.

Did you check with Jason at Sam Taylor Buick? He just quoted me $465 for the whole LT4 hotcam kit.

I wouldn't do it, you can get some LT4 springs real cheap.

if you are ever planning on a cam then i suggest putting on a good spring now. i went ahead and installed a CC987 spring kit and 1.6 pro mags in anticipation of a cam in a few months. for the work and time envolved with changing springs...trust me you want to do this only once!
