1.6RR with STOCK Cam? Worth it?

I'd like to add a few things to my car, but dont know if I want to rip into it and do the cam yet. But thought that 1.6RR with 7/16 stud, hardened pushrods, and maybe new lifters too (might wat till cam for this though).

What kind of gains could I look at getting from this?
reason for not doing the cam is well, its more work then I want to take on this year.

hooker LTs and true duals or cut out will also be done.
And the car MAY see spray too.

I was looking at:
-Pro Magnium 1.6RR none self aligning 7/16 stud
-Comp cams "R" hydrolic roller lifters
-crane one peice cold forged 7.200" rods

and everythign else stock.
Wil I run into problems doing this?

I know this has been discussed befor, but cant find anything in my search.

Yes,it is worth it.I would leave the stock lifters alone til you cam it.The valve springs will be on the edge of binding and should be changed, but it can be done.I would guess a 10 -15 hp gain. You need an LT4 KM for to go with them for sure.

I think it's worth it, since I gained 3 mph, 17 rwhp and 6 rwtq. I agree, wouldn't worry about lifters yet, but get better springs. I used CMS 611 valve springs, and the GM guideplates.

What the LT4 KM? I know what it is, but cant think of it right now.

so I'll leave the lifters alone, for the springs should I go for the springs that I will want for the cam I pick?
I was looking at the dual springs that dont require machinging, cant remember what they are, but I have it wrote down.

It will see about 12000km befor the cam goes in.

its got 24000km on it right now.

Thanks

What are the best 1.6 RR's to get to use with a stock cam? That sounds like a worthwhile mod to me.

If you get the non-self aligning rockers make sure you get guideplates.

17hp@5700rpm or 22hp@6100 rpm.

I beleave the best rockers to go with would be the Comp Pro Magnum 1.6's. They seem to be the best h.p. gainers for our cars.

after i had a whole exhaust i put on the 1.6 roller tipd comp cams.

http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Ca...3/HTML/310.asp

stock head and stock cam and i couldnt tell the difference. i only had SOTP to tell so i dont think you could feel 5 rwhp once you get near 300. i put them on because i had the cash and knew i would eventually do a head cam package with it. i was preparing for the future. they were the self aligning 1.6 and they went on with no problems at all. very good quality product. i think if i had planned to go to 7000 i would have gone full roller rocker. dont know if there is much gain there compared to the roller tip.

They are definately worth it. You can go with the GMPP
LT4 Hot springs for less than $40. I have no idea what
the incremental difference is but I don't think I would have
made 310 without them.

I like the Comp Pro Magnums. It just depends on what you
want and how much you want to spend. If you go with the
Comps you might as well go with the 7/16 non-self aligning.
You will need studs, guide plates and hardened pushrods.
Most people recommend new springs. I think that new springs
are a must due to the closeness of the exhaust to coil bind
w/1.6s.

As I have said before, think a couple of steps ahead now and
go with that spring rather than just a spring to get you by with
a stock cam. I made this mistake and will pay by doing the
spring replacement exercise twice. I'll be putting in the Crane
210/224 cam and have to take out the LT4 hot springs and put
in Isky 235Ds.

so I'll buy the springs that I want for the cam... but now I was looking a bit, will I need new valve covers still? or not till the new cam?
with the Pro Magnium 1.6RR none self aligning 7/16 stud?

Oh, and can I do this without taking the heads off?
if I do have to take the heads off are the ARP head bold torque to yeild or can I reuse them?

i thought i remember a post about them being on a stock motor and doing a pretty good job (along with changing the springs, getting guideplates, etc.)

Back when I put in my 1.6's no one said anything about changing the springs. 10,000 miles later they are still holding up fine. maybe Im just lucky, but I'd bet their are a lot of people running those rockers w/ stock springs. I just recently removed those rockers to sell them (they were the crane pro gold 1.6 SA), good rocker in my opinion.
