1.6rr/lt4 springs

I was searching around, and looking to do a couple more bolt on things to my car, and i noticed that some people are putting the comp cams pro magnum 1.6rr and lt4 springs on there car. i was just wondering if it was really worth doing on a basically stock engine. any ideas on how much it would add?? thanks alot

Yes its worth it, reduces high RPM valve float. My engine pulls harder over 5K RPM thn it used to.

Re: 1.6rr/lt4 springs

LT4 springs don't leave a lot if any room for a cam upgrade later on, unless you just want a hotcam. The 918 is a great spring and can handle up to .600 lift which encompasses pretty much every streetable off the shelf cam and most custom cams. You don't want to have to do those twice, unless you plan on pulling the heads/motor. I went with 10* hardware as well.

Its not hard to do at all, just compress the spring with a screw type compressor and remove the locks with a magnetic retriever. The spring will them come right out exposing the valve. Install your new parts and grease the locks to make them easier to install. The whole thing is rather intuitive.

You can do it in about 2-3 hours without having to rush. Six of the cylinders are very easy but the two in the back suck big time cause of limited access.

Make very sure the piston is at TDC or you might drop a valve into the cylinder which means you WILL pull the head.

Also make sure you replace the valve seals while you are in there and ensure you have the correct rocker geometry, you will need an adjustable push rod to do this. DO NOT GUESS HERE, make damn sure you have the correct length push rods or it might mean bad things man. Ask me how I know.

Getting the old springs off is easy, even with a typical screw type compressor. You just compress the spring as much as you can and then tap it with a hammer to get the locks loose. Definitely replace the valve seals. LT4 springs should be easier than other springs since they don't have a very high spring rate. The CC 918's were sometimes a pain to get compressed enough to slide the locks into. It took me about 3-4 hours to get all of them done and it was my first time. You can do two cylinders at a time so check shoebox's website to see which ones to do when, but make sure your balancer is marked correctly. You don't want to drop a valve into the cylinder!

Just use a airlock to hold the valves up instead of using your pistons. then you dont have to worry about droping the valve.

Are you referring to the airlock fitting that replaces the spark plug and fills the cylinder with air?

If so you will more than double your install times causing getting LT1 spark plugs out sux major ***. No offense but I think I would burn my car to the frigging ground and buy a 4 banger ricer before I did it this way. Your suggestion is very affective on engines where you can easily get to the plugs.

Use this link and just turn the crank by hand or by remote switch, this takes only seconds to do and a valve CAN not fall into the cylinder enough to warrant pulling the head if the crank if the piston is at least at 95% TDC. Find the purple wire in the main loom near the PCM, hook a remote switch to the 12+ and the purple wire and bump it over with the starter.

Crank pulley arrow/crank gear dot position Pistons at top of travel (do both valves at the same time)
12 o'clock 1 and 6
3 o'clock 8 and 5
6 o'clock 4 and 7
9 o'clock 3 and 2

The best deal on LT4 springs and retainer etc are at www.sdpc2000.com for around $70.00 shipped.
You can get seals there too or at any local parts house for around $15.00
