1.6 RR's high lift cam & LT1 factory valve covers

Am i going to have to swap valve covers to maybe the LT4 style so I don't have clearance problems? I've heard something about this and just wanted to be sure before i end up spending more money than I want to. Thanks for your help.

It's not the lift that interferes with the valve covers, it's the width of NSA rolling rockers like the Comp Cams Pro Magnums. It's easy to modify the "webbing" that holds the stock valve cover tubes in place to clear these RR's.

You should be replacing your stock valve springs too.

Thanks for the reply. Those as a matter of a fact are the rockers i'm going with. I for some reason thought it was the lift. I got a set of heads in transit to my house from Lloyd already equiped with "beehives" and all the necessary goodies besides rockers, studs and guides. Thanks again though.

I'm running Pro Magnums with close to 0.600" lift, stock valve covers with minor adjustments to the webs and the baffle for the air line on the passenger side cover. There are numerous posts on the subject, and some of them include pictures of the crimped centerbolt webs and the pinched baffle.

Injuneer, are you also using the adjusters that came with the Pro Mags? I got ARP adjusters, I`m curious if they would work with the stock valve covers also.
Thanks

^ I know what you are talking about. I have both sets. I have the ARP and the ones that came with my Pro Mags, and the ARP ones are a lot longer. I have never tried the ARP ones out though with stock covers. I used the ones that came with the rockers.

Re: 1.6 RR's high lift cam & LT1 factory valve covers

FWIW, I just installed some Proform Black Crinkle centerbolt valve covers on my AFR 190s...with the NSA Pro Mags 1.6/1.5, +.200 pushrods, longer Ferrea valves and ARP adjusters; There is about .250" clearance from top of adjusters to inside of cover, and I squeezed the GM style baffle in the vise ( not too much!) to narrow it up so it would clear the sides of the Pro Mags. On the ouside, you do have to grind the small nub on the back of the alternator (just a little bit!. This nub is for a screw that fastens some stuff on the inside the alternator!) I think someone else had a post on this. Though they ground the nub down the whole way. Just grind enough to clear.
These covers fit real nice, and look good too. I didn`t want the chrome or polised ones, to much work keeping them clean!
