1.6 rr ?

I've been thinking about changing out to some 1.6 rockers, but have some questions. Could I change over to the 1.6's and keep my stock springs, retainers etc? The car has about 86k miles on it currently, and I do plan on changing the springs and everything later down the road. Currently the car only gets about 1k miles on it a year since summer in Ohio is only 3 months.

So at most, the stock springs would get another thousand miles with the 1.6.

you wont get a straight answer....some say yes but most say no.......I used LT4 springs with my stock retainers......They were less than $50 and it was less than 2hrs work......Good Luck with whichever you decide, but why not just put the springs in it while you have it apart?

Basicly, I don't have the money to do replace everything at once. I don't want to take it apart to do one thing and then have it down all driving season cause I have to replace everything. Otherwise, I'll just get everything I need over the summer and then do it all next year....Im just impatient, lol.

$50 for springs/caps (probably can use stock locks), that;s a great deal! They seem fairly low pressure so you won't have to worry much about blowing your stock lifters out. As long as your just staying with a stock cam you could run 1.7 with it (just need hardened push rods, guides, and possibly LT4 valve covers).

I'm the same way, but you need to change those springs. When it comes to engines, better to do it right than cheap......especially when it comes to valvetrain.

I know. I have the 1.6 RR, and I just get tired of seeing them sit around the house. I'll probably just wait till next year. I've been back and forth over what to do with the car as far as valvetrain goes. Lately I've been thinking about just dropping in the LT4 kit, but Im affraid I'll be dissapointed with it. I don't know which cam I want, so I don't want to get those LT4 springs only to get a cam next year and change them out due to lift restaints.

My goal for the car is to run low 12's. I don't know if the LT4 will make that, or if I should do some kind of kit with the 305. I kinda lost touch with all this stuff over the past couple years and Im trying to get back into everything.

Not to sound like an *** but, why are you so afraid to make decisions for yourself? If you're tired of looking at them, do some research, buy some parts, and go out and tear **** up. There are THOUSANDS of threads on cam selection, parts, performance, etc. to provide you with the information you need to make an educated selection.

I didn't mean to discourage you from doing the 1.6 (self-aligning, right?) I just stuck my1.6rr in with stock springs and it might be falling off on the top end but I don't push it that often. My car has only 72k and I don't drive it much either (good thing, it gets lousy gas mileage). Go ahead, do it, it's fun!

I hardly drive the car, but I don't want to put the 1.6's on if there is a chance they will cause some damage. They have been sitting around a while now, another season won't hurt, lol. I think those springs mentioned above though would work out as I'll most likely go with a cam under .525 lift. Obiously though, if I do the RR, springs, retainers, etc. I might as well get new locks and everything else. With 86k miles, the car is starting to fall apart, so there is not reason to think the valvetrain is in much better shape.

And no, the are non-self aligning pro mags. So I would need some hardened push rods and guide plates.

86k miles, in most cases, is essentially brand new! I'd go for it. Guideplates and pushrods aren't that expensive.

Check out patriot performance for one of their spring kits. Their spring kits will not work with a stock cam. But I do agree with the previous threads, just make a decision and do it. It is not that much work and you can pick up some more hp and tq. Around $400 dollars and some elbow grease and you will be done with it.

x2... For $50 it's worth the extra peace of mind. IDK how much lift the stock springs can handle, but I can only assume it's very close to the max lift with 1.6rr's.
