1.6 roller rocker question.
1.6 roller rocker question.
I thinking about buying another set of roller rockers. My goal is to try to break the 12 second barrier as cheap as possible. My question is it absolutely nessesary to get full roller 1.6 rockers or will the roller tip rockers get the job done. I have heard claims of good gains in power from this mod so I did full rollers on the SS and felt a difference. But I'm just wondering if the added power is mostly from the extra lift or the reduction in friction. My goal is to hit 12's for $1000 or less. So far I have baught all these parts either really cheap or used. Magnaflow catback, Moroso cai, Tpis airfoil, Csi waterpump, asp balancer replacent pulley, lg lower control arms. I actually have a good portion of the money left but I still have to find rockers, gears and headers. Might just settle for the headers.

12's for $1000 or less, easy.... nitrous.
No, but for real, when I only had about $700 TOPS in mods on my car I ran a best of 13.216 @ 103.97 N/A on a slipping tranny that completely went the next pass. You can do it, if I ever went back to the track before doing heads/cam with a working tranny I'm pretty sure the car would have gone 13.0-12.9.... you are going for a very atainable gole, I had a couple bolt-ons and stock rockers.

Re: 1.6 roller rocker question.
My Camaro never sees the track. The TransAm I just bought and all the mods are either in the mail or on the shop bench. So I don't have a time for you. My previous Camaro ran a 8.60 with 1.8 60ft w/ SLP headers catback and CAI and march pulleys. It was an auto w/3.23 gear. It had some issues so I know I can beat that time with the new car. I just want to be cheap about it. I also have a full NX system with all the extras but I don't want to use it for now.
Re: 1.6 roller rocker question.
I ran the old camaro on the street a few times on the bottle and it was a beast. I never got a good pass at the track on the nitrous. I will most likely put it on the TA in the future. I am also going to skip the panhard bar and strut tower brace this time around. They work good but I don't like working around the stb and I don't think it does much for straight line anyway. Might try weight reduction this time.
Re: 1.6 roller rocker question.
I don't have the magazine with me so i have to quote by memory. I had a camaro performer and they took a built 350 and replaced the stock rockers with aftermarket stamped steel which were none roller tip. They are suppose to have more accurate ratios and less flex. I think they gained a few hp. Then they went with a roller tip and gained close to 5 hp. Then they went to a full roller set up and gained 8hp i think. The test was done all with 1.5 ratio rockers. So the full rollers do add some decent amts of power. Also they noted that it lowered the oil temp considerably by adding them. I think almost 20 degrees which is a lot when it comes to engine life. I say get the full rollers.
Re: 1.6 roller rocker question.
Yes no 1/4 mile tracks near hear but four 1/8 tracks. Each one hour drive in different directions. I am not sure about driving the car that far and using the bottle. Although the only time I ever broke anything was the one time I was trailered to the track.
