I did it w/ bot hteh spring screw type and the crane one, the crane one was sooo much better I had no problem spending 107 to use it.

could you send some pics to jjgarcia@gcnet.com. thanks

I would like to do this also, where can one buy the LT4 springs at? Or something else that would work with stock cam. A bigger cam such as cc305 or similar will be going in sometime down the road.

Re: 1.6 rockers and LT4 springs

OK well things just arent going good. I need a clutch now. So i think this winter I am going to put a new clutch in it and also put a cam in it. Here is my question. I have a stock car. In the future, and by future i mean 5+ years. I plan to rebuild the motor and put a blower on it. For now I would like to do the suspension piece by piece and also do bolt ons. This winter i want to do a clutch, longtubes, ORY, tune, 1.6RR's, springs and while I'm at it I might as well do a cam. For a stock car like mine, would it be good to just get the LT4 hotcam kit or piece together another kit. I want to retain drivability and some gas mileage. Like i said someimes it is my daily driver and I just want to add some more power.

Also, by doing all those mods listed, what kind of numbers should i expect???

Re: 1.6 rockers and LT4 springs

I know that the LT4 springs are sold with the Hotcam kit but they are too close to the coil bind safety limit, even in this application, to suit me. Let me suggest another low-cost alternative. Either Comp Cam 26915s and retainers for most mild street applications or stock '02 to '04 LS6 springs and retainers. The GMs are the cheapest, by far. These are both of the beehive design, offering good versatility and will work on the stock LTx seats. A great advantage of beehives is that they have very small retainers offering greatly reduced weight w/o have to spring for titanium retainers. If your heads are off and you have your spring seats cut down a bit, then you can use the CC 26918s as well. But you'll need the added adjustment for installed height, provided by cutting the seats, to insure that you don't end up with excessive spring pressures, to use the 918s.

LT4 springs have plenty of room before coil bind with the stock cam and 1.6 RR's. You don't see them having problems with the Hotcam and 1.6 RR's, so why would it be any different with the stock cam and 1.6 RR's?

Re: 1.6 rockers and LT4 springs

I had my car idling roughly at the track 3 weeks ago, pulled into the restaurant parking lot and it started sounding funny.
Said lets eat and we will see at the track.
Startv up engine and it idles funny, get on the road to the track and everything is normal, nice lope ,,,,STRANGE.
At the track when I rev it is okay,,,so I decide to make a run and see,,,12.5 at 108,everything normal...
Do the program(11 runs),put mu street tires back on ,drive home(160 miles) and park the car,it was quite noisy when I took the off ramp.
Go to the garage tuesday morning, lift the valve cover and find out one of my springs is broken in 3 places.@!!!!!!!!!!
Only thing that saved the engine was the fact that my builder did not trust the LT4 springs when he changed my cam,he put CC double springs, the inner coil; kept a pressure on the valve which kept it from falling into the cylender!!!!.
NEVER'NEVER'NEVER use single springs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand how you feel that double springs are better, but should we all go out and swap out our stock springs, just because they are single springs? How many times do you hear of a stock spring going bad. Not very often at all.

The LT4 springs are great springs for their application. If you push them beyond their designed performance limit, then they will fail, just like any spring will. It's funny how you compliment a spring that gave you a failure in your application(which is pretty sweet BTW), yet state that it's better than the LT4 single coil spring. How do you know that the LT4 spring wouldn't have worked flawlessly? Have you ever heard of the LT4 springs failing with the hotcam, or stock cam, with or without 1.6 RR's?

Sure would and costs around 479.99. Cant beat that deal with a riced out Neon. There are better cam's out there, but not for that cheap.

I misread, I thought he was using a Hotcam too. I still don't believe they are adequate for it. Too close to the borderline with the minimal tension they provide.

Re: 1.6 rockers and LT4 springs

I want the hotcam kit just because it comes with eveything and why would GM put a kit together with springs that are too weak???

What are some other suggestions?? If I don't go with the hotcam what would be another good combo???

Over 100,000 ??? That's just getting broken in compared to my 181,000. I want to see how long it'll last before I rebuild.

Just saying that if you will be replacing springs might as well go with the doubles.

They are a part I had never thought about until it happened to me.

Glad my builder thinks about these things!!!!!
