I personally wouldn't go past 1/8 of a turn.

What's with all this talk lately about barely putting any preload with the "R" lifters? I've ran mine at 1/8 preload and it ran like absolute ****. Not to mention valvetrain noise was ungodly.

Shoebox "tested" his and run's them at 1/2 past zero lash.

If you read the other threads ibanez, then you know that the 1/8-turn recommedation was just that..... a recommendation. I believe it was also noted that some may need more and some may work best with less. Chalk yours up as one that needs more but also understand that this has been a hot topic for some reason... and none of us are recommending less lash without a deal of experience behind it.

Happy, happy, joy, joy.

I had enough!

I relashed mine this morning to somewhere around 1/8. I did not notice any real change in idle MAP (vacuum) or anything. I have not driven it much, so nothing much to report. It did not seem any noisier that I could tell, though. It might be the placebo effect after reading so much about lash recently, but maybe it seemed a little smoother just cruising around?

Note that I am not running a big cam (224/230 114LSA), so that may or may not have some bearing on what people perceive with their own car.

Glad to hear.

The thing about these message boards that I guess I'll never understand is why so many suggestions are marked as a who's right or wrong kinda deal. And I thought all of this was about sharing experiences?

The real test of lash changes will come through track testing, dyno runs or perhaps something like the G-Tech. Maybe not an accurate device, but something that could gage a change from baseline.

FWIW, I've always quantified results at the track... but to be meaningful requires a good deal of consistency.

Munson,
Sorry bout the inbox... just cleaned it up a bit.

I have talked to Comp twice and read most of the posts
regarding the "R" lifters. Comp recommends an absolute
max of 1/8 turn, with 1/16 preferred for 7/16 studs. This
seems to be similar to the real world experience of others
that have posted regarding their installs.

I have a NIB set of R's but will not install until the end of
June. My plan is to try 1/8 turn and then a tad more to
seat the poly lock. I will post results after the install. Even
though there is lots of discussion regarding minimal lash
with the R's, I have a hard time accepting zero lash as
reasonable.
