The 1/4 mile woes....13.3, BUT--@ 112mph! what gives??

Guys I am stumped I know my mph is there for a quicker run. I think it is simply traction issues. I don't expect you guys to diagnose any car issues, but I am just curious about what a 112 trap speed (with GOOD traction) is capable of? I would assume I am driving a 12 second ride, but of course there is no slips to say so....

My buddy actually has timeslips for 11.9 @ 112 in his car (which is not an fbody). How comparable are trap speeds relative to 1/4 mile times then? I don't expect to hit 11s for quite some time if ever with this setup, but everyone at the track today kept saying how my car once i got past the 60 foot line, or at least out of 2nd gear, took off like a bat out of hell.

I am just frustrated with my performance, any input?????

The car is a 6 speed HC N/A 350. Only glaring stock item is injectors and intake manifold. Just about everything else has been modded, literally.

THANKS

A 112 trap speed will be around 12.4-.3 range. What was your 60 ft. time on that 13.3 run?

I ran last tuesday in 85 degree heat. I trapped a bunch of 111mph runs at between 13.20-13.02
Then I finally got my first 12 a 12.94@112 my 60 foot was 2.18. My car is a full weight thirdgen running on really old street tires. I haven't weighed my car but I'm gussing around 3600 lbs.
Hope this helps.

here my experience, if you have a bad sixty foot. it effects your 1/4 time MAJORLY. here are some of my slips from the april 9th 2004

12.22 at 111 (1.74)
12.81 at 110 (1.96)
13.22 at 110 (2.34)

What do you have for suspension and tires, all stock?
You need some frame connectors, rear lower control arms & relocation brackets, a torque arm with adj pinion angle and some drag radials.

Well this probably doesn't help you much, but you've either got ****ty traction, or you suck at driving

Start saving up for a 12-bolt / 9-inch, and throw some slicks on there

Thanks a lot guys, I clearly have horrible traction.

Let me answer some of your questions--

1) Drivetrain is 6 speed with hurst shifter and TNA short stick which goes through aluminum driveshaft and hit the stock 10 bolt which houses richmond 4.10 gears. I was running BFGoodrich Comp T/A drag radials which I heated up a little before each run. I burned them until a little smoke filled the wheelwell. No water box.

2) weather was perfect but a little on the hot side

3) my 60' times were **** poor....on my 13.3 run i was still pulling 2.2/2.3 times...which is not so hot

4) My suspension consists of eibach springs just in the front for launching purposes...then kenny brown subframe connectors welded and bolted as well.

My shiftlite is set at 6300 rpm and the car absolutely hauls when it is hooked by 3rd gear. I cross the line exactly when my shiftlite hits in 4th gear.

Furthermore my R/Ts were awesome today which adds to my frustration. I ran consistent .5xx reaction times. Go figure?!

Anymore input guys? What are you guys launching at?? And for you few that have got your 60' down into the 1.7 range, HOW??? I want the coveted 12 second timeslip

I'm an auto so thats a little different, but I ran 12.12 at 111 before but with a 1.68 60ft. 60ft plays a HUGE role in et's. 112mph traps is enough for low low 12's in a 6 speed no problem. Just get some better traction and a better rear end.

M6s typically mph higher than their ets would indicate. In your case, you definitely should be deep in the 12s. As already stated, I think traction may be your biggest problem and/or a little bit of driver's error/s. Good luck.

112 puts me easily in the 11's.

You need a rear end and some ET Streets. It is very difficult to quantify anything unless you can reproduce the situation and spinning every run won't allow you to be accurate in your assessment of the vehicle.

Just do a longer burnout and dump the clutch at about 2500-3K. Get your 60' down to 1.8 or so and you will run 12.6.

BTW- Get some bigger injectors!

Well looks like I better get back to the track....those 60' times are just so bad for my times. Everything else seems to be ok.

I was doing a decent burnout, but I was worried that if the burnout was too long (too hot) that I would stick too much and possibly break the rear. Afterall it is the 10-bolt.

If I were to do just 1 more suspension mod, what is the best for pure traction?? Torque arm? Any ideas? Like I said I already have subframe connectors and Eibachs up front. What would be the next most effective mod?? I need to get me some deep 12 second slips.

30# SVO injectors are on the way!
