1/2 Way into Clutch install on 96 SS....any advice or tips.

Alright, I got started on the install of my clutch tonight. I got hte driveshaft off and the torque arm support that runs from the transmission to the rear end. I got all of the electrical points disconected that are on the transmission. Also disconnected the clutch master cylinder from the transmission...it says that it should be disconnected from the top end of the assembly (ie near the firewall and clutch pedal)...this seemed WAY too much work. Why not just disconnect everything from the transmission and drop it? My dad and I are using the Haynes guide, which, while helpful, seems to be a little TOO detailed for some things. Should I replace the transmission mount while Im at it? Any other hints or tips would be greatly appreciated. I can't quite get to the top bolt on the starter. The exhaust seems to be in the way as well as some other wires going to the starter. I was just going to loosen the bolts from the starter and drop the transmission and leave the starter hanging....good idea, or not? Im looking for some short cuts.

Thanks,

John
