Well its easy to check the pickup.....drain the oil and have a look. Oh, and no way in he!! would I pay someone $800 to fix that even if it did include a new pump.

Would it hurt the motor to run another 2-3 quarts of oil just to see if it still does the same thing under braking? I wouldn't run it like that constantly but just for a few minutes to test it out.

That wouldnt do anything but blow out seals. Drain your oil, and look in there for a dropped pickup

Yeah, my dealer told me, "That's impossible. If the pickup was off, you wouldn't get any oil pressure."

Then when I picked up the car: "You were right - the oil pickup sump was off. You learn something new everyday."

It's the oil pickup, trust me. Listen to Spinner, because he's 100% correct. The oil pump CAN pump oil with the pickup off. I had the same exact problem, but my motor survived.

Don't play around and listen to bad advice. Get it fixed right away or you'll be among the ranks of those with spun bearings or other oil-related failures.

I would be one of them.

Listen to him - you do NOT want to rebuild your engine. It is a huge stress. On both you and your wallet.
