~How much $ to clearance block for 383? Max overbore on these LT1's?

I'm HOPING I can clean up my cyl wall with a .030 overbore, but I won't know until I bring it to the Machine Shop. I've read that one needs to clearance the block for the stroke of a 383. Anyone know how much ~$ this costs?

My other question, is how much of an overbore can these blocks take roughly before a sonic check is required?

Thanks!

Hi Dave,

I don't have receipts in front of me but I think that the additional clearancing was minor. Some additional clearance was needed at the very front for the crankshaft and a little at the point on both sides where my H-Beam rods were wider then stock. They only spent about thirty minutes grinding. I had an issue with the stock oil pan as well but I don't know if this was caused by the crankshaft or the connecting rods. I ended up spending about 350.00 for a very slick Milodon setup. I hear the Canton is about the same.

Thanks for the info Rick. I just got off the phone with the builder.

$65 to put a sleeve in the cylinder if he can't clean it at .040, and $125 to clearance the block. He said they don't weld cranks anymore, so if it's beyond it's use, then we're going to have to go with a new one.

GRRRR

.040 is as far as I'd go. If you just had to go .050 or .060, then you'd be wise to sonic check. I wouldn't be too keen on going that far on these blocks though.
