[problem] man

I got into some water after a freaking tropical storm started to come through after my class today. I was going down a road that I had no idea flooded. I have never had my car in any water, and this was up to the curb( I saw other cars going through and figured that I could deal with it, being I have seen worse). I was going like maybe 5-7mph and then a sudden stall. I am guessing it is hydrolocked. I had a car in the past that bend a rod up, because high water. What are the chances here?

On the bright side I have a 383 that is almost done, but did not want to rush it.

Maybe you just got the MAF wet. Open up the intake plumbing and check it out. See if you can rotate the engine by hand and remove the plugs if you need to.

Did the water go up past the front bumper? Enough to get air into the filter if you have a CAI? take all the plugs out and let it dry out see if you can turn it by hand w/ a braker bar.

Well I went back later to the cars location, and tried to gently give it a crank. It did not turn at all after giving the key a slight blip. I am going to have to tow it tomorrow morning and pull the plugs I guess. I am not looking forward to doing it.

It seems like every time I get something fixed or get a break in school I get a big pile of turd dumped on me.

With cold air intake I wouldnt think it could suck up that much, Especially with the cone shape (knowing it was not in the water much if any.) My cut out was I am guessing submerged, which is why I stalled out. I have heard of water being sucked up through the exhaust. That is not possible right?

well got the car home jacked it up, and oil spilled out by the starter. Upon further inspection it looks a small hole in oil pan near starter. I am guessing that the car threw a rod, when the water steamed up in the combustion chamber. I can say that i'm shocked and awed right now. Never again.

I drove through very deep water recently, half way through my heart skipped a beat when I thought it must be close to the CAI. I guess I got lucky.

Yes you threw a rod from the motor sucking up water.

nobody ever answered my question as to if the exhaust can take in water at all.

I have a cutout that hangs lower.

I am glad it is not the forged motor however.

Ever try to suck water into a straw while you are blowing out of it? Seems like it would be kinda hard to do.

Sorry for your misfortune.

Lesson #116:
Never drive a f-body with CAI in the fender before/during/after a nationally known torrential downpour.

But yeah your right cold air is bye bye now. I have the z hood I will be hooking up with airbox on the 2nd motor.

You could have your entire exhaust submerged in water and it's not gona chock or stall out a big old v8, maby a wipy 4 banger but not a 350. Must have been a little deeper than you thought and it only takes a little water to get in there.

Oh well, what is done is done. Time to look into solutions than worry about how or why it happened. I've had very bad luck w/ my car, I wont go into it, but I know where your coming from.

Yeah it turns out insurance might total my car, which is cool by me because I will buy it back. (since I have another motor to go into it.) I am going to buy a econo-car for Daily driver now. It sucks that my title gets black flagged, but I was not going to sell the car anyway.
