*PICS* Undercoating car with Por-15

To put it plainly, THIS SUCKS! (reffering to doing it) Degreasing and cleaning and doing all the "neccesary" prep work they recommend SUCKS! And Im not sure how impressed I am with how the coating is sticking. It seemed to scratch off easier than I thought it would(that was with one coat though to we will see) Im off to work now so I wont go into the details. Take a look(this is the second coat, it has been drying for about 4 hours):

Im just working on getting the tunnel done right now while Im doing the clutch install.

Why not go to one of those truck bed liner compaines and ask them to undercoat the car? I'm positive they have the capability. I saw them undercoat a truck on the show Trucks on TNN.

Um yeah I thought of that but I would have to trailer the car there. Did you notice there is no drive shaft, tranny, clutch? Not to mention brake lines, I just pull them aside a little and reach the brush under. And Im not sure if those places have lifts.

Pictures have been optimized to load faster.

Trey,
The oil filter is nothing to fancy. Its a Purolator Pure One(PL2004...if Im not mistaken ). They cost about $8 and from what I heard they are good filters. Its funny though because everyone that sees it comments and says how nice the blue looks....I dont buy it for the blue though.

Me and my buddy moister have a beef with each other. I live in a northern climate, though I dont drive in winter but previous owners have(I am the third and final owner). And moister comes up through the cement in the garage in winter(I will be putting plastic down in the future). Besides it will look nice by the time Im done, whether the Por-15 wants to cooperate or not, and protects the underside from rust/moister and the underside should be able to be cleaned quite easily being a slick surface. Also I am an enthusiast. I do not plan on selling this car. Ever. Now I am realistic and realize this may not be possible but I will do what I can to keep it the rest of my life. 20 years from now I want there to be a car to keep, I dont want the underside all rusted out.

About the Por-15,
Now its pretty much dry (cant get pics till tommorow, its too dark now) and the semi gloss does not look very good. There is patchy glossyness...it doesnt look that bad when looked at only when you shine a light on it does it not look that great. Ill get pics tommorow. Im hoping it will look better in the light of day. If it doesnt Ill probably paint over the por-15(like your suppose to do anyways if its exposed to uv rays). So word of the wise, dont buy the semi gloss....its crap.

haha, why undercoat your car! I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada where it's below 20 farenheit 5 months of the year and just last week was around -40 farenheit not including windchill for about a week.......now I just recently imported a 96 Z28 M6 from Sacramento that's never seen winter or needed undercoating, but it's one of the first things I did, up here all cars come undercoated usually or it's a 95% taken option due to the salting of the roads and the cold pavement humidity issues, now I don't drive the Z 5 months of the year, but undercoat it anyway 'cause of the salt on the roads.....if you are in a cold climate and/or want your undercarriage to last forever you should do it, it's not too expensive either. Shoulda seen my buddies '87 IROC without it

.....enough of that story.....

Umm they dont use salt on the roads here. Its a biodegradable deicer, similar to what htey use for deicing planes.

Undercoating your car here is a dealer option, it consists of spraying a tar like crap on the under side of the car, does it get everywhere.. maybe, does it make a mess HELL yes. does it prevent rust more then the paint on the bottom, doubt it.
I drive (drove) my SS rain, shine, snow, ice, extreme cold melting snow......
and when under my car... well its dirty, and the only thing rusted is my DS, rear end, control arms etc.... but not the body.

huh, don't use salt eh, I just always assumed it was salt, is this stuff still bad for your undercarriage like salt is at all?
