Sorry for the resurrection but, My '93 also has an electronic speedo. Or do you mean plastic gears spinning an electronic doodad vs a metal reluctor on the output shaft? I'm in the middle of a tranny swap/update, so after I get the tranny out I'll pull the sensor out and see what it has behind that 3 pin electrical socket.

 

its only a 2 pin plug on the tailshaft for the speedo, and yes there are plastic gears on there to drive the speedo instead of a reluctor gear and pickup.

How do you know if you have the M29 or M28?

 

Look at your RPO sheet in the glove box. it will be on there.
