$4-5K to spend on engine/upgrade

Hey, guys, i've blown my '93 LT1, sister ran car hot, still starts, but runs horrible, so i know its pretty bad. I have $4-5K to spend on fixing her up! Is there chance for a performance upgrade on the blown motor? Should i drop another motor? I would like to get the most bang for the buck, i welcome any and all suggestions. Remember, more power, the better. Thanks.

i'd do a stock rebuild on the block w/ aftermarket heads/cam. you should be able to barely squeak by w/ that kind of money as long as you do the work yourself.

It really depends on what damage was done to the block. If the block itself is ok you will be fine. You can buy a forged rebuild kit from summit for under $700. You can get a eagle or scat cast crank for under $400 get a set of I-beam rods from eagle for under $300. Top it off with LE2 heads/cam for under $1,500. Buy odds and end parts like headers, 58mm tb etc. with rest of money. That all adds up to $2,900 you will have over 1,500 for other stuff and you might want to invest a little of it in your transmission.

If you can't build yourself the shop should be able to rebuild it back to stock specs port the stock heads and install a decent cam for around 4k.

Thats a pretty nice budget to work with. I would call some shops and get some quotes on a bottom end rebuild as the prices can vary. As for the top end, a budget heads/cam kit from Lloyd will really wake the car up: www.eportworks.com Another idea would be to buy a completely built up shortblock from www.victoryracingengines.com

stroke it to a 383 and then add some forged rods and pistons, port the stock heads, more radical cam, that will be a good budget setup, then a great setup to add a blower or spray to when you want more.

with the kind of money mentioned a 383 short block would eat that all up.

I have been looking at these golen long blocks lately. They also offer short blocks, 355's and 383's starting at $2600. They appear to be really good quality, might be something for you to look into.
