$0.85 Optispark screw removal tool.

Here is my super custom made optispark removal tool for the cost of bubble gum. The whole thing cost 85 cents from Ace hardware. Sure beats $25.00+ for socket sets you will never use on anything else.

Torx head screw $0.50
Wing nut $0.25
Jam nut $0.10
Opti cap removed in 60 seconds. Priceless

I just jammed the nut and the wing nut together with some locktite and ground the torx head down a tad to fit in the recessed areas of the cap.

The thing worked perfectly to remove those retarded inverse torx headed 3.5mm screws. Plus you dont have to damage the threads on you TB cover screws.

As always, your helpful posts are keepers. I followed your instructions on fixing the window motor instead of throwing it in the trash. Wondering what you do for a living now.

I am a development engineer for a major printer/copier manufacturer. Part of my job is to solve sticky problems. I even amazed myself with this creation.

Hahah O wow where were you 4 years ago when I started the reconstruction of my car. I bought it totled when I was 16, and rebuilt it. But all the accessories were already off since the engine/tranny was pulled to do frame work.

I replaced the cap and rotor on mine while it was out. Figured id be dumb not to. This was when I was 16, and didnt realize I should have just replaced the whole thing.

This could have saved some time and money. And, like you said, tools I likely, will, only use one or two times again.

Good advice, here's an even cheaper way, I removed the torx screw from the air intake cover and put a couple of nuts on the threads the same way you did and tightened them against each other... Then used it as a socket to take the opti apart. I looked everywhere to try to find that dumb E2 sized female socket, I think thats the size that no one has, so the final cost was like .10 or less for the dopy nuts
