Personally I dont like SS cars.. I dont like the hood or the spoiler on them. There really isnt enough there to justify the cost for me.. But thats me..

I always opt for the Z28 and make them faster. Yay.. hehe

Just find the one you like the most.. Power wise there isnt much difference.. Just looks..

Thumbs up

If you prefer the looks of an SS (hood scoop, raised rear spoiler, 17" rims), and want a little stiffer suspension, get the SS. Don't get one based on "well they're 10HP more", because you can match the "performance" of an SS much cheaper than paying the difference between an SS and a Z28. It's basically an option that gives you the looks and heavier sway bars and stiffer shocks.

Basically: get what you think you'd prefer. I guess psychocabbage and I are on the same page --- I also prefer the more subtle look of the Z28, and I know I can make it handle and perform just as well as an SS (and I just like "Z28's".)

Good luck finding one, and if you do, stick around here --- lots of good tech advice and info.

Pretty much what they said, it all depends on if you like the look of the SS better or not. I personally love the SS hood and spoiler, and if I had bought a Z28, I know I would think everyday "I wish I had an SS". But that's just me.

Save the money and get a Z28. Yes the SS is a nice looking car, but when it comes down to it, its a Z28 with a hood and spoiler and some other handling, or power mods. There is nothing you can do to the SS that you can't do to the z28. Save the money, and spend it making the z28 faster, or you can make it look however you want. There are alot of Appearance mods for these cars, with a z28 you can add whatever you want. If you have an SS tho, your gonna be replacing parts that you spent all the extra money on.

Take it from me, I have had both. Yes the Z28 can and will do everything an SS will do. As performance goes, there is not a big enough difference to be noticeable. I used to get frustrated at my car (SS) because I paid so much for it and was getting beat by guys that paid $5K less for there cars (I had a few SLP options). I now own a 2000 Z28, put corvette rims on it and could not be more satisfied with the looks and performance.

As you could read, Z28 owners will tell you that they prefer Z28 and SS owner will standby their choice of SS. I certainly don't regret or have second thoughts about my SS.

Drive both and make a decision on what you want and can afford.

I am a Z28 owner and I wish I had gotten a SS now. Get the SS if you can afford it.

The SS's look extremely awesome, but performance wise, not that far from a Z. The t-tops are worth it, i havent had problems with them yet. If you can afford it go with the SS, but a Z28 would be just fine.

I've had my Z28 a couple of weeks now and I can't imagine ever regretting not getting an SS. I do love the looks of the SS, but I bought the car for performance and the SS benefits didn't outweigh the extra cost IMO. Plus, all the SS's kept showing up around here with leather interior, and I wanted cloth.

There's a good chance the SS will hold it's value better, but I don't plan on selling the Z28 for a long time. Good luck finding your car, and enjoy that 0% for 60 months!

Just think about the intimidation factor. When people who don't know the mechanicals of the SS (ricers for example) see the SS badging, the wide azz tires and the hood scoop, they think "damn, I better not mess with that!".

Personally I like to buy the top of the line models. I get jelous if I see someone with a more top of the line model of something than what I've got and it burns up inside of me, wishing I had spent the extra $$ to get all the features.

I think the front of the LS1 Camaros look boring without the hood scoop.

Ah, but I'd rather have a ricer look at me a say "oh, that's just a Z28, I bet I can take it" and have some fun with the poor, uniformed soul Still waiting for that to happen, so far the only running I've done if with my neighbor's blown and built Fox-body, and it walks my stock Z28

You're not gaining much in the way of performance with the SS, but they look good. I say go with the Z and put the money you saved into making it faster. Go with the T-tops I love 'em.
