Z28 -98
Hi all , how many horsepower has a Z28 -98?
Friends tell me 288 but i thought it was 305.

Nellie,
They were rated from GM for 305hp.
Most were making 315-345. Seems the 98 were the wild years on variences in power.
Most cars assuming a decent launch would be 4.9-5.4 0-60mph

Hi Nellie,
My manual transmission '98 dynoed 288 at the rear wheels when it was stock, but that was 800RPM below the rev limiter due to a speed governor on my car.
The manuals seemed to average in the 290's to the rear wheels, with the automatics averaging a bit less. The base vehicles were advertised with 305HP, and the SS/WS6 variants were badged with 320HP if I recall correctly.
Most concur driveline loss on a stock vehicle is 15-20%, so divide your rear wheel numbers by 0.85-0.80 and you get a good guess as to what the engine is making by itself. The percentile difference between 345 and 288 is 16.5%.
0-60 for an automatic? A lot of variables, but I agree with Dave.

Hey Nellie, do you have any web addresses for swedish speed parts stores ? I'd like to check swedish price level. I might take my 98Z28 to Finland when I'm moving back there and Finnish tolls and taxes are just plain sick. Imagine :
your_price = ( orig price + shipping ) *
( 1+toll ) *
( 1+ dealer cut ) *
( 1+ sales tax )
sales tax = 22%
toll ~= 10%

I'm confused, Is the 98 Z28 the LS1 or LT1 ? It makes out 305 hp and also give out about what in torque ? Does the 5.5 sec is verified (anyone has a source I can use to prove my friend). Does anyone know if the canadian models are any different?
Sorry for resurrecting an old post

The '98+ V8 F-Bodies have the LS1.
The '93-'97 V8 F-Bodies have the LT1, and a handful have the LT4.
Torque is rated at 335 for '98-'00 and 340 for '01-'02, but it's more like 370 ft-lbs. at the engine.
Most Z28s and SSs will hit 60 at around 5 seconds. Don't believe what you see in magazines, they're testing NEW cars, and any car gets a little faster after it's been broken in.

They average at 345HP.
My car is stock with only the K&N filter and I can get from 0-60 in under 5 seconds. I have a 1998 A4 Z28 with 3.23 gears.
