z06 motor
z06 motor
so i have a 2000 camaro ss with ~90k miles on it. So the motor is old and we sent the car in aout the tranny, its no big deal the guy said a few new parts and it will be like new. so anyways my dad wants to keep the car instead of getting a new corvette, crazy old man. anyways he wants to buy a new c6 z06 motor and put it in there and replace the old ls1.
is this possible?
practical?
whats the cost? motor + install
is it worth it over buying the new corvette money wise?
anything else you can think of please let me know
thanks

It can be done, motor is about $13500. There are some difference, knock sensors, relutor wheel and throttle body's drive by wire. I see that you are in Calf. so you need to stay emissions legal?
Alot of different options when you are talking that kind of money, stoker kit with a small cam and heads won't get you the same power as the ls7 but it would be a big improvement over stock.

do you want that motor just to say "i have a ls7 in my car!" or do you want the performance?
cant remember the ls7 price off the top of my head, i think its around $12k not including labor to install. you will have to modify for the dry sump system. fo rless money, you can build up a 402 aluminum or 408 iron block (90 lbs differance) that can handle some serious hp. with the 408, a procharger and supporting mods (suspension, brakes, bolt ons) you can easily have a mid to low 10 second car. dont have an extra $4600 for the procharger? still will run low 11's to high 10's and that might be conservative.
last but not least, search for the lsx 511ci small block on this forum. $2k-2500 for the block, unknown price to complete it, but guessing around $8k. that is going to be one bad *** engine.

check out the latest issue of GMHTP. they show an LS7 crate in an f-body and a GTO. some modifications were made (mostly to wiring) and the dry sump oil canister was put in the battery location and the battery moved to the trunk. good read

Not a practical idea in the least.
You can build a motor with much more power for much less.
A stock LS7 puts down around 460/420 +/- a few ponies to the wheels, which is around a 346ci heads/cam/intake LS1.

A $7000 forged 402 LS2/L92/L76 combo with a 200 shot will take care of that.

I wouldn't either because there are much cheaper and easier ways to make that much power. Golen is doing LS based strokers now, and they are now a supporting vendor
but if you ae wanting to say you have an LS7, then go right ahead
Its not going to be a bolt-in...well..the motor will be but the PCM and wiring harness are going to need to be replaced...and since there's no such thing as an F-body LS7 wiring harness, well...it will just take some time to sort out.

I think Katech has made the supporting wiring harness
GMHTP did it... major traction problems...

The LS1 would be fine, just do some maintenance on it. or rebuild it to a stroker.
... like $4,000-$7000 to rebuild it and get just as good power. Maybe not QUITE 505hp, but still. The ls1 would be worth rebuilding. For an LS7 swap, you would need to do a lot more than just the engine, engine mounts and the harness. Full suspension rebuild also. The LS7 route can get expensive quick...... unless that's what you really want.
