YET ANOTHER... Exhaust question!
YET ANOTHER... Exhaust question!
Well this actually does have to do with LS1 tech so here it goes:
I ordered all my cam stuff and its coming in the mail. With my ported heads I'm thinking I'll be right at about 420-30 rwhp or so. I need an exhaust that will sound about like my dual/dual does because I still want it quiet, but I dont want to bottleneck any power.
My F-13 with LT's and dumped duals will be outrageously loud for my tastes. I was thinking of running 2 bullets in my y-pipe and then continuing my 2.5" pipes seperate untill I reach the axle, then go into the 3" dual dual rear section.
Would that adequately reduce my sound and still offer enough performance to not be holding back power or should I run it true dual over the axle, then do 2 hooker mufflers in the back?

Re: YET ANOTHER... Exhaust question!
honestly...i'm running my 233 cam, long tubes, no cats and 3" xpipe with magnaflow 4x9" mufflers...and it's nice and quiet.
standing next to it i think it's quieter...exhaust tone that is...than when the car had a flowmaster 40 series on the stock exhaust setup (when stock). you can hear the engine more....but the tone of the exhaust is quieter.
and it still flows like crazy and screams nice and smooth at WOT

Re: YET ANOTHER... Exhaust question!
I agree w/Teke, those Magnaflows will tone it down nicely. I ran the Dynomax equivalent on my 70 SS and it wasn't very loud at all.
I wouldn't run 2.5" to the axel then 3" over. If you're going to do something like that just get a Mufflex type system. I've seen 3" duals that drop to 2.5" after the muffers and ran the 2.5" out the back. They go over the axel on the passenger's side.
