Yay or Nay

Been helping my friend look for an f-body for about a month know through the chicago suburbs. He asked me to help him since this is his first and i said hell yeah since i have a fascination with these cars and got a good knowlege of them. But we came across what seems to me a damn good deal, out of all the cars we have seen this one seemed to be the best deal and i figured i would ask the f-bod pros on there opinions. So yay or nay
~~~~~car specs~~~~~~
2002 blue camaro z-28 (35th annv.) all the options, 16inch chrome, 6 speed 20k miles @ 16,400 $$ we bargained him down to it
now for the mods i know these dont add value but i feel that he is getting a good deal.
slp lt's w/ory and cut outs for open exhaust w borla catback, moser 12bolt with abs,and 4.11 gears. slp sfc,slp stb, i can tell its been lowered but not too much the stance looks great it has a 224/224 cam and all the upgrades to the motor I.E. timming chain, oilpump, rods. the tune is real good i test drove the car myself and it felt great, very solid and a great choppy(but not to choppy) ideal with the cam, the clutch is centerforce with a very stockish feel to it so it was pretty easy to drive.
I test drove the car myslef and it felt real good. with only 20k the engine didnt feel beat at.It still had the new car feel when it came to the integrity of the vehicle.
Re: Yay or Nay
you know with those mods he obviously raced the car.... i would go ahead and wait for a stock one or a nearly stock one
plus imo it is way more fun to save up and buy parts for the car then to have them on there from the start
Re: Yay or Nay
Many of the "STOCK" ones are just demodded prior to trading in. Thats how I've bought most of my mods.
Might as well buy one modded. Just because it is cammed does not mean it was raced much. I've seen some stock ones driven hard while the modded ones are pampered.
Exactly. Plus, it all depends on what your friend is looking for. Personally, when I was looking for my car, I was hoping that it would already have some stuff done to it as it would save me some money and effort in the future.
Thumbs up Re: Yay or Nay
I would jump on that deal real fast before the guy either changes his mind or someone else offers him more money, if YOU are satisfied that the car is mechanically sound and has a good appearance and that it suits your needs!It sounds like a really nice car.... and as the old saying goes... go with your FIRST instinct, because it is usually the right one!! I say go for it !
Re: Yay or Nay
Well he is looking to have a car that is already faster than stock, otherwise he would have done it himself so he likes whats done to this one, but he put a depoist on it so it cant sell. The funny thing is they had the car for like a month and they didnt really advertise it or display it because the dealership that is selling the car sells mostly exotics like lambos, ferraris ect. So when i was bargaining with him he said that he really didnt deal with these types of cars thats why we got the price cheap and he had bigger fish to fry when it came to sales soo a plus for us i guess.
Re: Yay or Nay
yeh, not a bad deal. Actually, that is about what the car is worth $16,400 market value. They really cant upcharge you because of the upgrades because people buy them upgraded or not for fair market value. Mine had all the things you mentioned done, was a 2000 model, and I paid $7900 for it because people were afraid of the cam! I looooooove mine after having mustangs, crazy fast for the money. Mine just turned 70k miles and is immaculate. Also has SS hood, and spoiler installed.
There is one in Louisville KY with 24,000 miles, burgundy in color,2001, bone stock, absolute mint listed at $12,500.....a great deal!!!!!!! I would much rather have it modded, will save thousonds especially with the cam. Mine had 438 HP at the crank with the cam and bolt-ons. 350HP to the ground on a Mustang dyno which is 5-10% low Ive heard.....
like greed said, many are demodded. mine was "stock" but found a timeslip buried in the glovebox with a run of 12.4, and i later noticed i have bad rings. can you say nitrous!?! still blows smoke in the high rpm band
Thats worse than the mod I found on my car. I had a hash pipe drop out of my dash when I was working on the clutch switch. I'm just glad I found it instead of Johhny Law.
I"m sure they'd be REAL understanding when I claim," Honest, it isn't mine!"
Now my car should be !pipe.
