Yahtzee!!!!!!!!!!
Yahtzee!!!!!!!!!!
i finally found a performance part that is legal in cali! even though im gonna have to take a loan out to buy them lol, i am still very intersated in getting these put on. they are slp/afr cylinder heads (http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=12225)
i was wondering what kind of horsepower increase i was looking at if i/a performance shop installed these onto my completly stock motor???

Re: Yahtzee!!!!!!!!!!
I think most people have seen around 30-35RWHP from a head swap alone. Partner it with a custom cam made to pass cali emissions and you will see a lot better results. There are people that have done 400rwhp with the stock manifolds/cats and remained smog legal in Cali, just takes the right combination.
Re: Yahtzee!!!!!!!!!!
why not just port your stock heads...how will anyone know they are any different??
i don't think porting stock heads voids emissions laws. i mean they are the same heads.
and you can probably get that done for less than $1500
and on stock cam...you won't see 30hp.

Re: Yahtzee!!!!!!!!!!
I agree w/teke. Just get ported LS1 or LS6 heads and no one will know. Someone was having a sale on ported heads on ls1tech for under $900. Get those a GT2-3 or CheaTR cam and you're gold. BTW, the CheaTR was designed to work w/stock manifolds. W/just AFR heads and that cam and no other mods except a tune you should be VERY close to 400 hp.
I like how SLP decides to sell AFR heads so they slap their name in front of AFR. I wouldn't get them from SLP. Why? They say they come with springs good to .600" lift. AFR sells their heads with patriot gold springs good to .650" lift. Why down grade? My guess is those downgraded springs are SLP's claim to those heads. Plus IMO, those valve are too large for any cam that'll pass emissions. And they've already milled the heads!!!! Here is a nice note right off AFR's webpage for the LS1 heads: Note: Milling head deck will affect flow numbers
Anyway, if those are CARB approved, regular AFR heads would be too. Plus you can get them cheaper elsewhere. For the price of just the heads from SLP you can get the CheaTR package from Thunder that comes w/a cam.
