Y2K wheel question?

Hey guys, a question about tires.
I want to order some new rims, and I have my heart set on Vette Chrome Y2K's. I want 17's, 18's look too big. The 17's are 8.5 wide. I would imagine the tire size would need to be 275/40/17, or 285/40/17. With the rim 8.5, would that be the way to go? OPINIONS PLEASE!!

I think if you did 17's up front and 18's in back it'd look great. With an 8.5 inch rim, a 275/40 series tire will be a little too wide. It might be able to fit, but it won't be a good fit. You'll probably have to go with a 245 or a 255 on an 8.5 inch rim. You can see all the ranges for what will fit over at www.tirerack.com . Hope this helps some.

Ummmmm why are they only 8.5 wide? Have you looked at www.afswheels.com? they have wider wheels. I think the y2ks look funny when they are too thin. Wide looks tough 255 is the widest you're gonna get on an 8.5" rim. 275's won't fit.

I like'em FAT! only when we're talkin rims/tires here
-18" 285/35

I thought 8.5 wide sounded kindof off. I found lots of Y2K wheels on ebay. They're replica's, I wonder if they're really 9.5 but listed as 8.5. So I don't want 8.5 right? Where do I find cheap Y2K's?

OK, I found some Chrome 17in ZR1's for $690.00 on ebay. You can either get four 9.5's or 2 9.5's and 2 11's for rear.
If I go with all 9.5's, can I go 285's? Or will that not work for the front? And if I go 11inch in rear, what size would I want?
I need opinions, because I don't wanna screw up and buy the wrong thing. I appreciate the help!

Most likely if they are listed as 8.5, then they're reeeeeally 8.5" rims I won my rims on ebay and they came from afswheels.com . I love the way they look and I would definitely recommend them.

If you got the aftermarket 9.5" Zr1's you could definitely put 285's all the way around. If they are Zr1's that came from a real SS and not aftermarket rims, you would only be able to put 275's on because the factory rim is actually 17x9. In all practicality, you wouldnt want the 17x11. I researched it for many months and my conclusion was that the 315 tire looks cool and all, but it has the worst treadwear of all and costs an insane amount of money. Not to mention you wouldnt be able to rotate the tires.

This is a rear view of them

-I wanted the Zr1's for a very very long time, and luckily I couldnt afford them. My friend talked me into buying 18's instead of 17's. He said, bigger is better, and as much as i argued with him, I finally decided he was right.

-ps, I won my afs 18's on ebay for 510 bucks. Chrome z06 style. FYI

hope this helps ya man!

I forgot to also mention that the 315's are only made by a few companies, and they dont offer many variations in tread or style. For instance, pretty much the only goodyear tire i could get in that size was the GSC which rated horrible for that size, or the bfg, which rated horrible as well, with aweful treadlife. Usually people with the 17x11 in the rear have a different type of tire on those than on the fronts. Which I also considered an annoyance. I wanted the same brand all the way around.

The 17x11/315 setup would cost you more than its worth. IMO

stick with 285's or 275's. Both have the look that you're going for, trust me!

yeah, the F1 supercar tires... The eagle f1 gs rated horrible and I couldnt even find them online.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

My local Goodyear shop wanted $479 each.

Again, like i was sayin, the 17x11/315 setup would cost him more than they are worth. They are insanely expensive. $349 each!! on tirerack of all places!! I liked the review on tirerack when the guy said "these are just downright scary in the rain"

KwikistZ, do you even HAVE 17x11 rims????

Whelp, I pretty much decided to go for the ZR1's with 9.5's all the way around, and either 275 or 285's. Thanks for all the advice! Now which tires to go with? I'm looking at Tirerack.com for ideas. Any suggestions?

I'd recommend trying the Goodyear gsd3's
I dont have them, but they are getting great reviews and look . I have nitto 555's and they look sweet. I have no clue on the tread life because this is my first experience with them. I've only got 600 miles on them so far. It all depends on what kind of weather you're going to be driving them in, and your intended purpose for them. If you are going to race them at the track, you'll probably want something other than the d3's or the regular 555's. There are lots of threads about tires. I'm a goodyear fan myself, but the nittos grip much better.

Run far far away from the kumho's is all I've got to say!
