Red face Wow! Looky at what broke! (PIC)

I was driving home the other day, driving like a normally do and hear the banging coming from the rear. I have no idea what it was, but it was extremely loud. I looked after I got home but didn't see anything, took another look today and found the problem. The bolt that the sway bat mounts to broke in two! Can anyone suggest how to fix it, more than just take out the old one and out in a new one. Like where to jack the car and what not. And where do I get another one and what are they called? Thanks!

HERE is the pic

its called an "end link". When I lowered my car my bolts broke cause they were rusty when I tried to lossen them so I upgraded to polyurethane endlinks. The bolt is thicker and I am told it will resist rust....and the bushings aren't rubber.

The GM part # for just the bolt is 10018984. Dealer list is $3.80. If you have a good bolt hardware store around you, the size is M8x1.25x180MM. Just make sure you get at least a grade 8.8

Man, that sucks! I plan on lowering my car soon, I'll definitely keep an eye on that.

Replace both sides with new bolts and poly bushings.

The pictures above are for the front endlinks, however both of these sights carry the rear endlinks as well.

Crikey! And you say you were "driving like you normally do"? You weren't doing anything ill advised at the time it broke? Weird.

Just a note, all 1993 and newer cars have poly end links already!

The one on your car doesn't look stock, factory bushings are white looking.

I was thinking the same thing too. I realize that they are dirty so the color may not be truely representative of what you have. But the shape of the endlink itself is why I was thinking it might not be a factory part you have on there. With that in mind it could have very well been tightened incorrectly by the previous owner and weakened.

I respectfully disagree, my car is a 2001, and upon removal and inspection of my twisted up end link bushings (after 5000 conservative miles of driving), they were so soft and plyable (sp) there is no way they could have been poly bushings.

Fixed it!!! I bought a kit from Autozone made by Energy Suspension. The kit took some modification to make it fit like the other side. I grinded about 1/4" off of the metal sleeve, put 5 washers below the head of the bolt to raise it up, and reused one of the stock bushings. The other three were absolutly shot. After driving it felt a little more solid, I think some of the noises went away. Can't wait until I get the other side in, but I'll save that for when I do the axles.
