Is it worth my time to......

Upgrade to long tubes? I am heavily thinking about investing in them. But are they worth it over my current macs?

The hassle of the install alone wouldn't be worth switching from mids to long tubes IMO. There has to be something better to put the money towards.

I've seen midlength equipped cars running right with long tube cars, but its your $.

Could just get better collectors put on the Macs.

Have you seen the coated pacesetter long tubes? They are absolutely beautiful!!!! You could have a set shipped to your door for right at $400 and then pick up a y for another hundred and a half.

There is a dyno sheet on ls2.com comparing the two you're questioning about. It has made me decide to get long tubes down the road. The picked up power all through out the RPM range and their test car went from low 12 to high 11's with the header swap.

Did I say the pacesetters are beautiful?

Unless you can get the headers for free and have somebody install them for free for you, (so you won't have to do it yourself) no it's not worth it. Mids are a good header, don't let anyone make you beleive otherwise. I have a big blue bottle sitting here and a trex cam coming this winter, and I'm sticking with my MAC mids

I'd definitely swap to some longtubes. They are easy as hell to put in, you could do it yourself on a saturday no problem..

The swap can be pretty easy depending on what brand you go with. I'm not sure about all the others, but my QTP's were a piece of cake to put in.

You should probably drop a few tenths from what I've seen. Not a 1/2 a second though. I'd swap them out.

You aren't going to gain a few tenths going from midlengths to long tubes

You're right- I didn't gain this. There is a guy on LS1tech.com WHO DID! He knocked off .22 seconds after swapping Mac's for long Tubes.

This is on a car with TEA 1.5 heads and a very small cam.

This article makes me want to swap in some long tubes & toss the macs.

I only posted what I read- here's the article.

Re: Is it worth my time to......

The fuel trim is different in that comparison so its a bit difficult to say its all gained from the headers. I bet you could run the same set of headers and change the fuel ratio and see results like that.

But ya, if the Macs are not ported and are running the POS ball flange then yes they'll never be able to flow like long tubes that don't have those restrictions. Get rid of those restrictions and its a different story. Kind of like an A4 w/and w/out a converter.

Yes, LTs will give you the most but just because 1 person got .2 sec quicker doesn't mean most will. There are guys w/400whp cam only w/the tr224 but most are not near that.

It is worth it? Thats up to the individual. I'll switch eventually when I decide to go true duals.
