Unhappy Worried...weird knock like rev limiter at the top of 1st

Was out tonight and I lay into it in first. Tires didn't spin a whole lot cause I got 3 plus me in the car. I hit about 56-5700 rpm and the car kind of knocked, lurched forward, exactly like I hit the rev limiter. I know the rev limiter has not been changed (6200 stock right?). The weird thing about it, is that after the slight knock or whatever, the car continued to pull up to 6000 where I shifted.

I didn't think much of it because the problem didn't occur in 2nd or in 3rd. I tried it out again. Very definate this time at 5700, my friends even felt it and only one of them knows anything about manual cars. So I bust another U-turn and it's still there. WTF? Try again, yikes I don't like this

I dropped all my friends off and I'm heading home. Maybe the extra 550-600 lbs would cause it...nope. Even worse this time with just me in the car. I'm pretty worried.

I thought maybe it could just be that my gauge is just not very accurate, but this has never happened before? If I was hitting the rev limiter, I don't think the car would continue to pull until I shift a few 100 rpms later? I'm seriously stumped, any help?

My guess would be that 1st gear pulls to redline so much faster than 2nd and 3rd gear that the engine actually got to 6200rpms but the needle didnt catch up but to 5700. I've had it happen to me a few times.

I tend to agree with Robbie, the stock tach is a POS.

Angry

the same thing happens to me from time to time. I have to shift at the track when the tach reads about 5700 to 5800. factory tach sucks

Dude, try changing your plugs and wires. Your plugs and wires may be shot and causing you to stutter at high rpms. You still on the stock ones? How many miles on the car? Also, try changing the fuel filter, that could cause a stutter at high rpms too! Also, you don't have any ses codes like sittin in your computer, do ya? Cause I had like 8 codes sittin in there from my o/r y, and it started puttin my car in like limp mode and stuttered at high rpms and totally lost power, cleared the codes with atap, and it went away! Let me know what you find.

Bought the car with 43k on it, now it has 45.8k. Changed the wires, plugs, filters, etc within the first two weeks. I'll check tomorrow just incase.

Went WOT a few times tonight and didn't notice anything like last night. Hopefully it's just what you guys said of the tach being off. The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking it was just my imagination when I said the car continued to pull. There was no way to tell in that split second before I shifted.

Thanks again for the help.
