Why are my dyno #'s so low??

All I really have is a Lid, Filter, descreen'd MAF, P+P'd TB, Free mods, SLP LT's Catted 3" Y and the Borla CB w/o a plate. Teke mentioned something a while ago and now it's got me thinking.

I installed all those parts, then had it dyno tuned/ LS1 edited by ESP in CT.

Before:

299.5 RWHP/ 320.0 RWTQ

AFTER:

336.8 RWHP/ 346.5 RWTQ.

I'm seeing stock LS1's making this w/ minimal mods. CB, lid and filter...

Why am I so low? I would have figured the LT's would have gotten me at least. 10-15 more than what I have now.. Am I wrong/crazy?

(dyno graphs in my link in sig...page 2...if you want them)

Your problem lyes with the SLP LT's. They are crap and only make hp if on a h/c car. My SS makes more hp without LT's, your numbers are good for a car without LT's and not so good for a car with LT's. Try a different header like Jet Hots and you will see about a 20-30 RWHP gain and up to 40 on a H/C car.

^^^ umm I think those numbers are a bit bogus. the SLP's are about as good as all the other headers except fitment wise. try plugs/wires/fuel filter

Re: Why are my dyno #'s so low??

SLP's headers are just as good as anyone elses when it comes to performance, they just don't offer the greatest clearance.

most of the cars putting down better numbers are 01-02's which have the LS6 intake. you also have cats which will eat a few ponies.

with the setup in my sig (except i had an LS6 intake, stock tb, & TSP Rumbler Catback) i only put down 414rwhp and 385rwtq. those numbers mean absolutely jack because i can put one or more car lengths on quite a few of mid 11 second 1/4 mile cars, when racing on the street

...and in case anyone was wondering...no, i don't have any track numbers with this setup yet

Honestly ... you're well within the ball park for catted LTs. Don't try to compare yourself. Internet posted dyno numbers are like children in Lake Wobegone - everyone is above average.

It's all about what you put down on the track ... see sig.

Re: Why are my dyno #'s so low??

i'm not sure what i said...but looking at what you started with and what you ended with...it's about dead on.

336rwhp for bolt ons with catted ypipe and no ls6 intake is pretty darn good. the intake alone is worth 10hp and maybe 5 from the cats...possibly less.

so 345-350 with a little better flowing setup is damn good.

now is the 299rwhp before all the mods or just before the tune??

Re: Why are my dyno #'s so low??

The before #'s are just before the tune. I installed all mods, then got it tuned. Oh, forgot to add some.. Taylor 10.4 race wires and NGK tr55's.. The car had abotu 21k miles on it at the time, maybe it wasn't broken in yet??

If I remember correctly, Teke... It was in a post about dyno #'s on a BO car. I said somehting to the extent of... "I have a true Bolt on car running 336/346 rw.".. You mentioned that I didn't have a true bolt on car and that my #'s weren't that good. I was refering 'true bolt on' to no internals...

But anyway, was in the past. I was just thinking, looking at other PPL's #'s..

I was thinking about taking my cats off soon. I'd like to do a set of cut outs, but my funds are really tight now. I have to get back on my normal routine. Bought too much stuff for the car and lost the bank ballance in my head... = Overdrawn.... + $900 w/o bills... anyway... Next week, it'll be over. Can start to save again, one the first comes.

If the SLP's make better power w/ a H/C set up, THat could be dooable in the spring....... I've been dying for a lopey idle!

Slight update... (was digging thru "Dyno" search threads)

I installed an LS6 intake about a month ago. The car has since rolled to 39k miles. I remember at 37k (before the LS6 intake, w/ same mods as listed in original post), the car just started pulling a little harder for some reason. I think it reached it's 'broken in' point. Gotta get it re-dyno'd soon, also re-tune it too. -Buddy has HP tuner software.

I fueled up today and added some 104+ octane boost. She was pulling hard and easy, even w/ medium throttle. I think I'm at 400 FWHP/410FWTQ now, I was at 399FWTQ before intake and 160 stat. I'm going to order new LT's I think, but I'm also piecing together a 225/225 .581 .581 113LSA cam kit, w/ PRC dual springs, ported pump and double roller chain... -Prepping for turbo next year.

You'll want a 114+ LSA for a turbo setup.

^I've been writing LS1 Speed back and forth and they suggested the 225 cam. I was asking about a 230/232 and they said that the flat 225 cam will actually outperform a split duration cam, and w/ better driveability.

I don't think the 113 will be hurting me unless I up the boost to say 15psi, then I'll need the 114 or maybe even a 115. THat'll be a while, I'll need forged internals, and I'll be doing the 383 then too. I'm only going to be able to run about 5-7lbs boost for a while.
