Question Who Makes a Good Waterpump?

A master mechanic told me my waterpump's gasket is bad, which is causing Dexcool to seep out. He said I might as well replace the pump too.

I've heard that LS1 waterpumps don't last that long. Why is that and what's a decent aftermarket pump that a local parts store might have in stock?

By what I understand the pulley system on LS1's overworks a lot of it's components... water pumps, powersteering pumps (lost mine at 30k). They say underdrive pulleys really do help that problem a lot. I've also heard good things about Moroso electric water pumps. It frees up extra horsepower wasted on powering the standard water pump... Also pumps 19 gallons per minute. Seems pretty impressive and I know Moroso has a great rep... As a lot of dragsters use them and a lot of guys at the local tracks swear by them. I personally haven't used anything from them yet, but I am definitely looking into it! If you decide to get one and put it on, let me know what you think!

I just had the factory GM waterpump installed last Tuesday. I didn't want the car to leak coolant anymore, so I figured I might as well get it done.

That's an interesting fact about the pullies overworking the components, I'm going to keep that in mind if I ever think about installing underdrive pullies.

Are there any cons to installing underdrive pullies, and what exactly do they do?

As far as I know I haven't heard any cons. I've only heard good things such as, your pumps lasting longer and it freeing up horsepower for you.
